jl 8w7 vs. image dynamics id12v3

So title says it all...what are your thoughts?
jl 8w7 vs. image dynamics id12v3

I'd like to rip my sub box out and put one of the 3 amps i may end up using in that location.

comparison would be based on meeting the power requirements of each sub. I have a phoenix gold zx475ti that is just laying around. it's 2 ohm stable when bridged and would push 2x300 wrms @2 ohms.

any and all suggestions would be welcome. i may just keep the id12v3 and not use the pg amp; but i since this is going to be practically a brand new system build up, i may as well explore all options. I could get away with 2 8's in each corner but would rather not have to purchase two 8w7's ($$$$)

Don't forget that the 8W7 VC is 3ohms.

Those two subs aren't even comparable. The W7 is in a totally different league.

yup, i understand that the w7 is the motherload. but would i be sacraficing low end punch since it doesnt have as much surface area (8" v. 12")?

also... could i power the one w7 with chans 1/2 bridged to one voice coile and chans 3/4 bridged to the second?

I really depends on what kind of sound you are going for. The 12 will give more low end deep bass. The pair of 8's will create more mid to low range "punch" but will not give you the deep earth ratling bass. Given your situation I would use the ID with the current amp that you have, but then again I am a big fan of ID products. Also from my experience ID subs are extremely versital. So what I would do is invest in an inexpensive crossover to help you achieve the sound that you are looking for. Hope this helps.

well i was thinking about just a single 8w7. the more i've been researching the elemental designs 6.5" Eu-700 the more i'm liking these. they have a .2 cu/f enclosure requirement, can handl 150wrms a piece and two of them will equal a lower powered 10" sub. i could toss 4 of these in my car for a pretty unique system. I guess this would be a better comparison then the id12 v. 8w7
