    PRA-H400 w/out HU power up

Sorry about the double post in general.

Is there a way to get the apline H400 DSP to power up without a head unit. I know my unit works since I was able to hook the AI-net up to a friends car and the unit power up.

If not which DSP will power up with out a head unit that have optical input.
    H600, H510, H7001, H701

    I've done the search option.

Can you post a picture of the power harness that plugs into the back of the H400?

If you can do that, i can tell you which wire (if any) is the remote wire. In the Alpine manual, it will tell you that if you don't have an ai-net head unit, you are going to need to use a remote turn on wire to turn the unit on. On my H701, the harness had all of the wires labeled (luckily), so i just used the amp turn on lead from my power supply to turn on the DSP.

Hope this helps...oh yeah, it was the blue wire comming out of the harness (yellow is power, black is ground).

EDIT: The reason why you don't need a turn on wire with an ai-net head unit is because the ai-net connection has this function incorporated.

The wiring harness has 3 wires coming out of the unit. They are labeled

    Yellow - battery
    black - ground (no label)
    blue - remote out

I've tried applying a 12 volt signal on the blue and yellow wires and a ground on the black but the unit will not power on. I'm thinking I'm screwed with this DSP.

Hmm...that's strange. It should power on if everything is connected properly. I would try and contact Alpine technical support directly (email or phone call) and ask them if it's possible to use the unit without the ai-net connection. I don't know if anybody else on here is using the 400 model (cuz they havn't chimed in), but maybe this model needs a controller. Do you have a controller to use with it? If not, how do you control it?

I couldn't find anything on that either...the best bet would be to send them an email and hope you get a quick response.

sorry about taking so long for a update.

I tried to fool around with the unit for a bit then just said screw it. I bought a PXA-H510 system for 150 off ebay. When I have free time this summer I'll see about modifiy the unit to work without Ai-net.

$150? That's a great deal...about the same price as a high end soundcard.

the 510's go around 150-200 depending & are one of the best bang for the buck.... the 400 should power up with +12v on yellow & blue, black -.... if it's not powering up then theres a problem....

the 510 is a much more versitale unit than the 400, which is mainly a high end crossover anyway... most high end installs will use 2 400's.... there are no modifications required to use either of these non ai-net from what I remember....

The blue on the 400 is only for a remote out to a amp. I tried connecting the yellow + the blue to a 12+ and the black to ground with no luck. But the unit did power up perfectly when I hooked the yellow to 12+ , the black to ground and hooked the Ai-net cable from my friends Alpine deck to the unit. So I know the unit works.
