doyou have alink to the products you are talking about?
Anyone seen these and know if you can plug in an external hard drive? I have a 40 gig and would love access to all that music via this thing! Just asking. I noted that one refference on the net said that they run off of the FAT system and were limited to one gig but that was a specific HU that was being sold by a manufacture. Anyone?
Thanks

I'm not looking at a specific one since none say anything about using anything more than a memory key, so to answer you question directly no I don't. I mostly just wondering out loud in a sense. I cruised through the forum and didn't see anything right away. I was thinking that when I got closer to actually getting something I would just take the drive to a store and plug it and and see. Can't really fail at getting a correct answer that way!Originally Posted by scott_fx

My JVC has a usb port but I haven't tried hooking up a usb hd to it.
kenwood kdc-x890 just came out and uses USB input
I want to control a 3.5" 300 GB HD from a head unit w/ a USB port. The research I have done seems to indicate that there is a 500 title limitation on what the HU's internal CODEK will recognize. Has anyone had any luck with this? Also looking to see if any manufacturer has had the foresight to put a paralell USB port on the BACK of the head unit.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I could not find any other way to post. Be kind to the noob.

buy a head unit with a screen (non-touch) with rca inputs.
then buy this:
Lacie Silverscreen
this multimedia hard drive will do all the work.

You could also buy one of these TVisto 2500 for $75 and buy a 80Gb 2.5" hard drive from Newegg for $90 and have twice the storage space for movies and music. The interface for the TVisto series looks really nice and should work well even on a 7" screen. The 3.5" hard drive model has even more bells and whistles including VGA output.
