Setting up car, opinions and suggestions...

My 95' Nissan 240sx has a horrible sound system, it was poorly redone at the previous owners expense and now I'm left to clean up the mess. The OE Clarion amps are failing and caussing the front channel to go out or work partially with lots of static. It is also sending pulses on occasion to the speakers which I think are damaging them. The speakers were replaced by the previous owner and no-name ones were installed, to which THREE are bad/blown. He also had a gain-converter added to the rear speakers post-OE amp to feed signal to a MTX amp for a subwoofer. The system sucks, is ghettorigged and is annoying me because of these reasons.

With that said I have bypassed the OE amps, replaced the HU with a Pioneer DEH-8600MP I had from my RX-7 and have left the subwoofer setup alone, for now. I've aquired MB Quart DSE-216 Components for the front, and want to get something cheap/decent to replace the rears. My subwoofer is a single 10" Infinity Referance powered by an MTX 250w 2ch amp.

I want to rewire the entire car, removing ALL OEM wiring with a two 12v lines to the rear for two amps and a single 12v line behind the dash for a PC. I plan to run the MB Quarts up front in OE locations and have them and some other speakers for the rears run into a 2ch amp to power them all. The sub will stay on its MTX amp and the signal wires will run behind the dash to the Pioneer headunit for now, later to be replaced by a PC. I'll be stripping the interior out to rewire things and clean, insulate, paint, etc.

What speakers should I get for the rear? Should I look for MB Quart matched speakers, get some Infiniti 2-ways or just some cheapies as they are more or less 'filler's?

My friend has a Kenwood 800w 2ch amp that doesnt power on, I'm pretty good with fixing electronics so I'm gonna take it and see if I can fix whatever is wrong and use it for my main speakers. Does this sound like a good plan or would that be overkill for my speakers?

If not the Kenwood amp, what would be a good reccomendation to power the MB Quarts and possibly a similar output speaker for the rears? The MB's are rated at 120w each @4ohm, I imagine a similar 80-120w speaker would be best for the rears.

I'm into sound quality, not so much *thump thump*, which is why I went with a single 10" instead of a 12" or multiple subs. I dont wish to spend a lot of money on the sound system either as engine work and suspension have become my current focus. However the OE stuff failing and a damn good deal on some MB Quarts sent me this direction early. :/

    CLIFF NOTES
    OEM sound shot
    Crappy aftermarket speakers shot
Crappy wiring job need to be redone
Bypassed OE amps, installed new HU and reused ghetto wiring but it works
Wanting to rewire properly and looking for affordable equipe

    Thanks,
    ~Kris

Ok. I read it. So in summary for those that don't have my outstanding patience, he wants a new system for his car and doesn't want to spend that much.

@Dopefish: Youre getting a good deal on the Quarts because nobody really likes them...it's the sad truth, but i havn't met anyone that does. I would check the classified's section on different car audio forums for some good deals. If you want to buy "brand new" stuff, your going to pay a higher premium for nothing more than the right to say "I owned these first".

You can easily get a used system that will blow away a brand new system at half the cost. I recommend looking into CDT's for the fronts and rears and a quality 4 channel amp.

    Try looking here: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=6

You can always negotiate better deals with the seller.

Yes, sorry it was long winded.

Why does no one like the MB Quarts, I've heard nothing but good things about their products as a whole. The MB Quarts I'm getting are new and VERY cheap. They are from a friend that was going to use them but is selling the car now.

I've heard good things about CDT's as well, maybe I'll go ahead and look for a used pair for the rear for now.

As far as 4ch, I was told that there is no real need in a car application and that 2ch was more than adequate as most music is transmitted/encoded in 2ch anyways.

4 speakers, 4 channels ---- that's if you want to do it right, but there are countless other ways to power your speakers.

Me..im running a two channel amp for my components up front and i have no rear speakers. The componets up front get louder than 10 of my stock speakers did, so adding rears will only dent my wallet further while decreasing the sound quality in my car by shifting the sound stage backwards.

People don't like the Quart's generally cuz they're too bright....even with the tweeter level set to minimum. It's more of a personal preference, but the mids sound great. If you've listened to them and like them and are getting a good deal for them...you should definitely go with them (as long as you like them...that's all that matters).

I may run just the fronts for awhile and see how I like it. The rear seat is really never used so I'm not concerned about how well they can hear. I may still add some later to again fill the cabin better but we'll see how well these do. I might try using my MTX Thunder 2160 amp (250w RMS) to power them. Then utilize another amp for the subwoofer, possibly pickup another 2160. It is an older amp but very reliable and works quite well.

I've heard similar be said about the Infiniti Kappa's, I like the tone, although this is from someone who prefers more 'bell-like' pickups in his guitars. I was worried you were going to tell me they sound like trash and will more than likely take a dive on me. I will give them a shot, if I dont like them, I cant imagine them being worse than my current speakers.

I have mb quarts running in my car & I can't wait to swap them out... Currently I am using them for rear infill, & compared to the diamond components up front they are definately lacking. (Lucky I don't have to ride in the back seat.)

Just talking from my experience, if you do choose a rear infill (which you might not considering the size of your car) use comprable speakers to the front set & ensure that they are powered appropiately.

FYI... I am not trying to bash mb quart either... they are a good line, but compared to some of the others out there... you could probably do better.

Didn't Diamond spawn from some of the techs that came from MB Quart?

Bob makes a good point....Quart's are good, but for the price, you can do much better. But if your getting hooked up on them, then by all means.

I recently rewired my car and added a whole new system as well. I was dissatisfied with the wiring that was done by my local shop, so i tore everything out....ebayed it all....and started over on my own. There is so much more care and patience that will go into your install when you do it yourself.
