Which works better with a PC: 2.5 / 3.5mm mini-stereo plug or RCA on the HU?

    Everyone,

I am overwhelmed, and need some advice; if you were in the market for a
CD/MP3 HU through which to patch your PC sound, which brand would you start with, and perhaps even which models would you suggest?

I have spent several days browsing online, but I would like some informed opinions, especially from my peers here.

Let 'er rip! And thanks in advance.

PS - Not that I have not considered going HU-less, but see my worklog in my sig for the list of my criteria (in short 1-Keep wife happy with instant-on, no fuss radio and CD capability. 2-Not too expensive!)

Please? How often do you get asked to just give your opinion?
I promise, I will not challenge your suggestions.

C'mon. Opinions are like....certain body parts; everybody has one.

I have always liked Pioneer headunits. I have been installing them for a long time, and the problems are minimal, features are good, and you can get one that's not too expensive.

OK, here is the real question:

Which works better with a PC: 2.5 / 3.5mm mini-stereo plug or RCA on the HU?

    My notes below >>><<<
    Of the 6~8 of the pioneer units I checked on their site, if they have AUX-in, the manuals state;
    AUX-1 = 2.5 mm stereo plug cable
AUX-2 = Use and IP-BUS-RCA Interconnector such as the CD-RB20/CD-RB10 (sold seperately) to connect this unit to auxiliary equipment featuring RCA output.
Great site, easy to find detailed info like above quickly, good comparison tool.

    Kenwood
AUX Input with Optional Unit (CA-C1AUX or KCA-S210A)
    or
External Media Control — iPod Ready
AWFUL site for finding detailed into; most units listed are not in Support section for seeing details.

    Panasonic
    Inconclusive at best

    JVC
The KD-G420 adds a Front AUX Input for connecting a digital audio player or virtually any audio source using a 1/8" mini-jack.

    Sony
    Here we go
Lower-end models have aux-in on front (that should be a 3.5mm, no? pics look like it

Higher-end models have RCA-in in back

Yes, the Sonys have a 3.5 on the front, so do the JVCs. For some reason, Pioneer decided to use that stupid 2.5 plug, which you may have difficulty finding an adapter for. I have no scentific basis for my opinion, but I would lean toward going 3.5-3.5 as favorable over RCA-mini, just because there would be less going on inside the cable, it would be a direct line through.

You mean you would prefer 3.5 to RCA?

I just assumed RCA (in through the back) would be better. Huh.

Clarion: appears to have more of what I want, especially USB on front and AUX-in
