    Annoying whine

Heres the deal. I'm stupid. I wired my audio lines parallel to my power lines. I knew i was taking a risk, but i figured it would be all right. Turns out it was. UNTIL my alternator took a dump on me in the bearing department. Now, my new (junkyard) alternator whines the hell out of my speakers. Whats up with that? Do you think the new alternator has a bad diode?

I came to the conclusion, in the shower lol, that i have entirely too much cable running in my car. If I change the wire route, i can cut the total lenght of the rca cables down to a quarter of what it is. guess that is my next project. The previous question still stands though .

sounds like it might. I believe a lot of auto parts places will do battery/alternator checks for free or cheap, they just hook up a tester to it, and that should be able to tell you quite easily if there's anything blatantly wrong with it.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:
