    1998 Corvette Bose System Questions

I know that the factory amps in the Vette runs at 1-2 ohms and most aftermarket speakers are @ 4 ohms. Now, I'd really rather not replace the headunit, so is there anyway I can somehow wire each speaker up so the amp output is seeing 2-ohms instead of 4? And other than a power cut (volume will decrease obvs from the impedence being lower), if I just threw new speakers in there, will **** explode?

you can replace the factory 'twiddlers' with 3.5" coaxials and the rears with 5.25 or 6.5 depending on if you have a vert/frc or coupe. the 'subs' you'll be stuck with though

man - I so hate factory 'premium' audio systems, always causing so many problems, and always cost way more than a decent aftermarket set-up.

i hate them with a passion. for half the price of what they cost u can get a system that will blow any bose system out of the water.

Thanks guys, thsi stuff really helps. I got one quick question left though. Instead of getting 3.5's to repalce the tweaters and keep the subs, can I remove both the tweaters and subs and get 6.5 coax's to shove into the sub's holes and wire them up with the tweater's wiring? That'd be more convienent for me right now. Eventually I plan on just rewiring the damn thing, so I'd prefer having the speakers I want now.

those twiddlers aren't getting a full signal. you'd have to get an external amp. your best bet is to go the 3.5" route for now. Coax's in our cars aren't optimal, it sets the tweeter very low where your knee muffles most of the highs.
