    Help on Car Audio

I have $2000 to spend on an audio system. I have a BMW 325i and I want to upgrade the sound. I was looking at Mb Quart components (Premium) for front and back but i dont know. Could someone recommend me speakers, subwoofer (I wanted to get a 10W6v2 but i really like bass and wanted to know if that was going to be loud enough and i cant get 2 because that would not fit in my budget). The reason why I wanted 10" is because i have a 12W0v2 right now and i really like rock and it sounds muddy but i like hip hop too so i am confused whether to get a 10 or 12. I think it might just be the crappy W0 that made rock sound muddy but i dont know. I am confused as u can see.
Basically what i want is LOUD and ACCURATE speakers and really Punchy (for rock) and Bass'y (for hip hop) subs for under $2000. I am looking to keep the stock BMW head unit because i want to keep the stock look. Is there a problem with that? Ideally i'd want to get a DSP too but i dont think that would fit in my budget.

I want to thank the people who help me in advance.
    Thank You

I guess it depends on cash flow and look for your system. My brother had MB Quarts and they were nice, but I've tried a few cheaper brands. It also depends on whether you are looking for Coaxials components outright. I had a nice pair of Audiobahn comps, but I kept blowing the tweeter (never figured out why), but my favorites were my (pricey) Boston coaxials. I feel bostons put more emphasis on clarity then total sound, but they were PLENTY load enough.

Subs have different requirements as well. Are you looking to conserve space at all? I hate to lose space, as I had a stock Ford Ranger. I had success with Lanzar Neodyium(sp?)'s, fitting 2 12"'s in a std cab ranger. If you are looking for bang, I again plug the Audiobahns for style and power, but it's a personal choice. What type of box will also determine what subs are better for your application.

i have not heard good stuff about the audiobahns. But, i do not want to use up the whole trunk for subs but i can still afford to get a decent size box made. And sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the difference between components and coaxials?

audiobahns not for sound quality though. the ed amps will far outperform the audiobahns for probably not that much more. boston components are nice but more on there expensive lines and not there lesser 'value' lines. ED's components; as described to me by my installer buddy, sound amazing for thier price point. At $250 for there high end 2-way, you cant go wrong. MB Quarts, i had them, didnt really like them all that much. I actually like my CDT classics much better and they were half the price.

Another option I've heard good things about; for subs, would be the Elemental designs and soundsplinter subs. though these subs i cant tell you about from first hand experience, just from what i've learned from talking to others

coaxials are speakers that have the tweeter built into the 'woofer'. an all in one package if you will. Components have seperate tweeters, woofers and x-overs. most coaxials are a compromise because they rely on simple x-over networks and usually are built with lesser quality components. There are a few manufactures that make a 'coaxial' that have all the benefits of both worlds. for instance cdt's braxial line

The W0 is by far not a crappy sub.

It requires very little air space to work properly. The reasons for it sounding muddy could be the following:

    impropper enclosure design
if it's ported, the port dimensions aren't correct
the amplifier you have pushing it is a piece of crap (I would say it's underpowered, but the W0 takes relatively little power)
your system is not tuned properly

getting the bass you want is very possible, you just need to make sure that the rest of the equation is taken care of too.

also, you say you want a system, but you mention nothing about component speakers, only subs and amps. Am I to assume that you are only interested in replacing your subs? or are you wanting to do it all BUT the headunit?
