Thread: Do you compete or are you wanting to compete?

I'm in the process of prepareing to compete in SQ once I graduate High School. I'm re-building my system as we speak. Waiting for my resin to dry.

Red, I'm looking to buy some CDT HD-62's for my front stage in my Jeep. My question is how well does CDT perform in SQ? I'm proably going to put the woofer in the door, and the tweeter in my A-Pillar.

Any advice for preparing for SQ?

from what I've seen, the CDTs preform very admirably.

especially for the price.

Personally, I don't have much experience with CDTs, though I'm going to be keeping my eyes out for some cars with them at the upcoming big shows.

Just keep in mind, that in all reality, it's about 80-90% in the install. Speker placement, enclosure design, and tuning are what make or brake a system. Spend your time researching those things, and the brand of speakers should fall into place.

We'll have to meet up some time! I'm keeping an eye out for some local USACi shows, when I hear of one, I'll be sure to post up about it. It would be a good opportunity to go out and see how it all works at least!

truer words have never been spoke.... many guys go out & buy the most expensive, best equiptment they can get there hands on & automatically think a great system will come of it.....

now adays the difference between decent average equiptment & high end are not as far from each other as you would think.... it is very possible to build a sweet system with average equiptment & beat a car with all mega dollar stuff.... the equiptment is only a small part of what makes a system sound good.... the limitations of most systems are not the equiptment....

no offense, but this doesn't honnestly mean jack.

most 'local' events are nothing more than 2-3 cars TOTAL competing in SQ. This would actually mean something if it were a regional or even a triple pointer.

I'm not trying to down on the guys wins, I'm just saying that they don't point towards anything. I'm also not saying that the speakers aren't any good, just that your example lacks credibility, that's all.

IMO - it's only in the very top eschelons of competition (the expert classes, the true world class compeditors) where the top of the top equipment makes a difference.

I say this, even though I'm running some of the best stuff out there, but that's a different story all together...lol

I know exactly what you mean... I built a budget system in another car of mine, did it with pioneer components, everything dampened & sealed... tuned it with an old alpine g320 eq.... it sounded damn good..... of course if everything was swapped out with mb quartz or focals dyne audio or whatever it would have been better, but I bet it sounded better than if someone just threw a high end compnent set in without proper prep & attention to tuning...

the install is everything... the high end components are just the icing on the cake...

Ive been competing for the last year and a half in MECA, starting out in Street 2 last year, and moving into Street 3 this year. I also compete in SQ as well, and would of made it to finals last year for SQ alone if I hadnt been more gung-ho on the SPL side of things. This season its a 50/50 mix of SQ and SPL competition.

My team and I compete exclusively for MECA almost every other week in the surrounding states. I actually have more fun hanging out with the other competitors (of which ive made great friends with, even with those who I compete against). I think that ive got more new friends from the sport than trophies, which is what it should be all about anyways. I even spend alot of time helping people who are in my class get louder and compete against me ... but its lots of fun.

damn MECA, I contacted them about competing in finals, telling them that the closes show was like 14 hours away from me (which is 3 states away), and he pretty much told me tough ****....lame

IASCA and USACi are willing to accomidate at least. They understand that if you generate interest in states where you aren't settled in yet, that you are doing a GOOD thing...bastards....lol
