Can the ALPINE IVA-W200 control the H701??

Not that i'm thinking about ditching a carputer setup, but I was just wondering if the ALPINE IVA-W200 was an ai-net controller (capable of replacing the C701 as a controller for the H701).

As a side note: The ALPINE IVA-W200 is the double din dvd player by Alpine

It should, most of the new higher end alpine units are now capable of controlling the theater amplifiers and processors.

For sure...thanks kalt. I've been searching their website, but it doesn't mention anything about ai-net on the product page.

EDIT: Okay..i found it...it seems that it will work, but you won't have the ability to do auto-time correction.

It's official Red...i've finally decided to ditch the carputer and go for the W200. I've had so many recurring issues with my carputer and just when i've ironed out everything, another issue pops up. Just recently my monitor went out on me...before that it wasn't working properly...before that my ibus went out on me...before that my drivers were out of wack...before that my car almost caught on fire...lol.

I think that there is nothing wrong with the carputer and it is perfectly capable of running a professional grade sound system, but the problem i think is that i'm not able to handle it...there is just too much time that it needs and that i don't have.

Also, the only thing i use the carputer for is music playback...that's it. It looked cool, but the best feature about it wasn't the carputer itself...it was the H701. A dedicated music player that can play virtually any file type that is designed specifically for the car is what i really need...the carputer just had too many issues for me (screen wasn't bright enough, software issues, boot times, etc.).

I've had the carputer freeze on me on one too many roadtrips and would never use it for internet...also, the current software gps capabilities seem to be lacking imo.

I love the carputer world though and will still frequent these boards from time to time to drop in some advice wherever i can....having a carputer is more of a hobby than an actual reliable media player and now that i'm getting ready for my wedding (two weeks)...i really don't have time to keep it up. I'll also be moving into a new apartment with a tiny garage that doesn't really allow for any work on my car. I need a reliable, solid, practical solution that can withstand time and abuse.

With that said....i've already purchased everything i need for the transformation back from a carputer to a normal dvd/nav headunit (steering wheel controller, video bypass, ipod cable, bluetooth module). The total cost of the transformation will be around $1100 and i plan to hopefully sell my carputer for maybe half of that.

I still have the double din bezel that will fit the Alpine perfectly and i won't have to worry about the C701 bouncing around on my ashtray cover. I will still be running everything via an optical cable, but now i can get rid of my coax to optical converter along with the billiongazillion wires in my spare tire well (they make me really nervous).

    hey man, it's all good!

it's not for everyone, and that's probably what drew it to you in the first place.

I've gotten the carpc to function nearly flawlessly. I'm now delving into the front end aspect of it all.

I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks...yeah, that's probably why i went for it in the first place. I guess the bottom line is that i could have ironed down all the little quarks, but i just never had the time to do it. I forced myself to just live with them while the frustration grew.

Hopefully the Alpine treats me better than the carputer...have you heard anything about the W200 in terms of sound quality?

^^^ Thanks a lot for the pics...i havn't even seent the Alpine in operation yet...that looks sweet. I'm still waiting on it to be shipped...the scheduled delivery date is this friday (6/2).

I sold my computer as well...so now i'm head-unit less until friday. I'm thinking that i can leave the H701 in and simply plug in my ipod to it using a 3.5 mm to dual rca plug and control the volume from the C701 for the time being....we'll see how that goes though.
