Able to use USB HD with this adapter?

My friend loves the idea of being able to have his whole music collection (about 235GB) with him in his car, but is not and doesn't want to be computer savvy enough to have a car pc.

We were looking at the crutchfield catalog the other day, and I found this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OwjVVWY...0&i=500KCA620M

No, I know it says that you can have the flash memory fobs, but could you just use a USB HD for the same thing but with more storage?

    Thanks,

    Rafster

From looking around, it would seem that yes, it would be able to do it.

I'm gonna take the opposite tack and say no.
This probably offers similar funtionality as the headunits that have a USB port. It's widely reported that those headunits won't accept a USB hard drive, and I'd expect that this adapter would be the same.

Personally, I think that $150 just to be able to read a USB thumbdrive isn't all that great a deal.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Yeah, he's the type of guy that's into almost every type of music...

Funny thing is that most of the music that has was purchased...

From an Alpine Press release found via Google on Alpine's USA site.

"The KCA-620M is a hide-away box that utilizes a standard USB connector to connect to any digital audio player or mass-storage devices such as thumb drives and portable hard drives that use USB. "

    http://www.alpine-usa.com/company_in...010506_usb.htm

Also check out the Alpine Europe page on it: http://www.alpine-europe.com/content...0M%94-copy.htm

"This adaptor makes it possible for the head unit to interface with many portable USB devices including USB sticks, USB hard drives, and many MP3 players."

I have a H&B stereo with built in USB and SD Card slot.

It will only take Flash memory, not harddisk memory/
