Geez people can be mean sometimes. Shadow is WRONG. That Sony amp is not "utter crap" (although his attitude is).

I think what he meant to say is that there are probably better deals to be had for someone who is concerned about getting the most bang for their buck (or pound, as the case may be). The Sony Xplod line is a "value" line of amps marketed to price conscious consumers here in the US, meant to provide a decent value for your money.

That said, my personal experience would also lead me away from the Sony Xplod line of amps...as an example, I replaced a "1000 watt" Xplod amp running two Rockford Fosgate 12" in parallel with a similarly priced and rated Rockford Fosgate amp after being completely disappointed with the Sony's performance. The Rockford amp made a huge difference in the clarity and power of the subs...and I learned that all amps are not created equally.

All I am concerned about is the ground isolation really. I am not using it to power subs (I have a kenwood for that), it is for my components.

Tim, you could look at these:
    Alpine
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=4570
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=2756
    JBL/Crown
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=4139
    Kenwood
    http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=4825

All of those are around the same price as the Sony you picked and are much better quality. I'd recommend the first Alpine amp, then the JBL/Crown, then the second Alpine amp and then the Kenwood in that order.

From the other store there's also these:
    Kicker

West Coast Customs (made by DEI)
    http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/4787.html

Both of those amps are pretty stout.

Edit: The first two attachments are of the 4-channel version of that Sony amp you bought. The last one is the guts of a JL500.1

My mono amp is a kenwood anyway so I know they are good quality.

A friend of mine collects them for some reason. Probably because he did the same thing at one point to show someone inferior build quality. Some of them he took himself on crappy amps that customers brought in. He's got all kinds: Boss, Pyramid, Dual, etc.

I got the kicker amp and put it in. There is a lot less noise but still some.
I am going to play with the gains tonight and see if I can drop it some more.

It's pretty quiet now but here is something strange.
When the computer is on, it's quieter but when it's off it goes loud again!

    What could that be?
