    Sound deadening, liquid vs mats

So i'm thinking about sound deadening my matrix a little bit...the car has practically no sound deadening in it what so ever. I'm debating between using this liquid stuff called quiet car or getting 2 rolls of Raam mat. The advantage of the liquid is that it's lighter, but I'm not sure how well it will work. The advantage to the mats is that you only need 1 layer most everywhere and it's not as hard to install, but they weight more.

Someone help me chose here...I'm hoping to not add to much weight into the car, but I want some of this road noise gone. Not all of it, just a good bit of it.

Maybe i'm thinking into this to much, how much does 1 roll of the sound deadening mat really weigh? I'm guessing like 50lbs for a roll...but I could be off.

Depends on where you want to deaden the sound. liquid might be better in some places where as mats may do just fine in others. I recommend secondskinaudio.com - they have some forums on there and the owner is extremly helpful when making purchases. Plus, if you join the forum, you will be eligible for a discount.

Well, part of how sound deadening works is the weight. More mass means higher damping, meaning less vibration. Besides, two rolls of raammat is less than 50 lbs. If the liquid stuff is half of that, I don't think you'll notice an extra 25 lbs when comparing the two unless you compete in SCCA or something.

I used RAAMMat in my other car. Good stuff. A combination of liquid in open cavities(pillars and stuff) and mat works best.

My 100sqft roll of fatmat weighed under 25lbs and did a great job with just one layer. The asphalt based stuff like dynamat original is a lot heavier.

i used a 100sq ft roll of the asphalt **** in my subaru impreza. weighs a bunch but does a hell of a job. the before and after are amazing. there is not one bit of rattle coming from my trunk now; before the rattling made it sound like dog ****.

BTW, instead of buying expensive mats. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up Seel-n-Peel or Jiffy Seal (I use Jiffy Seals, it's heavier, cheaper and stickier). I did my doors with it... for $15 I made my car much quieter than stock. Time to do the trunk, floor and ceiling!
