    Kicker VS12L7 12" Solo Baric L7 Sub Box Enclousre recommendations

    Wassup fellas,

    I'm a big newbie when it comes to car audio so please bear with me. Having said that I'm still undecided whether to get a 10" or 12" sub, but was hoping you guys can help steer me in the right direction with these 3 options...

    1. Kicker VS12L7 12" Solo Baric L7 Sub Box Enclousre 2 ohm with a Kicker ZX750.1 amp

    2. Kicker VS10L7 10" Solo Baric L7 Sub Box Enclousre 2 ohm with a Kicker ZX400.1 amp

    3. Kicker VS10L7 10" Solo Baric L7 Sub Box Enclousre 2 ohm with a Kicker ZX750.1 amp

    And, some feedback to your answers would be cool too, thanks!

    are you running a carPC?

    what are you going for? SPL more so than SQ?

    do you need to save as much space as possible?

    what vehicle is this going in?

    do you need more trunk room?

    what other things do you have done stereo wire?

    Thanks for the reply.

    I guess SQ. I don't want it to be SO LOUD, but I really liked the deep bass sound of the 12" woofer when I heard it at Frys.
    I'm planning to run my stock radio with a line level converter for now. It's going into my 99 Civic coupe. Trunk room is important to me, but I don't think there's too much of a difference in size between the 10" and 12" and that's why I'm considering both. I have done nothing as of yet to my audio system.

    haha... if you liked it in a demo room, you're going to love it in a car... demo rooms are infamous for their sub-optimal setups, and once its in the car you'll have 12+ db's of cabin gain.

    here is the issue. The L7 is not an SQ sub (it CAN sound good, but its better suited to SPL use), and does NOT like small boxes or sealed boxes for that matter. If you value your trunk space, it isn't the subwoofer i would recommend. (believe me, i sacrificed my entire trunk to the 2 L7 12's that reside in it...)

    You've got around 7 cubes of usable space (from a subwoofer box-building standpoint using typical materials) in the trunk of that civic... lets say you use 2 cubes in the boot area of the trunk (right against the rear seat backs) in the form of a 25.5w x11.5d x15.5h box. This size is well suited to 2 of most 10's (as long as it isn't an RE MT, DD95XX or something crazy like that).

    For that amount of space i'd recommend:
    2 Alpine Type-E or Type-R 10's (the type-e's are VERY efficient and don't require much power)
    2 Sound Splinter RL-i 10's
    2 Phoenix Gold Xenon 10's (if you can find some on ebay... good SQ subs)

    avoid:
    no-name subs (think dual, pyle, blitz audio, etc)
    Kicker CVR's (disappointing in terms of SQ, an OK budget street beater sub)
    Kicker L5's and 7's (these like ported boxes which are likely larger than you'd want)

    They're muddy as hell, but if you filter them through a rear seat, they sound good

    thats my car at the moment... this will all change when i pick up my mids (i'm deciding between going active with some ascendant poly mids or a pair of Dayton RS180's and two 2 channel Phoenix gold 2/3 octave xovers or buying the JL XR Comp set) (i'm leaning towards the XR's because i can biamp them AND not worry about EQing 4 channels)

    whatever i go with will have 160 watts per side of midrange goodness from my JBL 80.4

    Thanks for the specs and recommendations bobby! I stopped by Fry's again today just to hear the subs again, and I just love the sound of them!! I decided to give up half my trunk.

    I ordered the ZX750.1 amp tonight with the VS12L7 2ohm.

    well im the newbie here now nd i need some help!

    i have an 05 trailblazer. i would like to put 2 12L7 kickers in the trunk.
    only thing is i have no clue how to power them. i was looking to try 2 alpine mrp-m2000.
    one for each sub. im also putting alpine infinite door speakers. do i need aan amp for them also?
    i want my truck to make everything shake. i want every one to hear me before they see me!
    plz help me thanks in advance
