if i wire my subs like this...
would it be a proper way to do it? the thing thats throwing me off is the wiring the + and - of the coils together...so I dont know exactly what thats doing, and if I do it that way, would it not be to the subs full potential?
and would it be bad to run a rockford amp at full gain? to get the max amount of watts? or is it better to bring it down a notch?
you should never run an amp at full gain. there's no sense in it. Usually at that point you will be producing a lot of distortion and will damage your equipment.
If you're running two (2) 4 ohm DVC subs and your amp is as we talked about earlier (bridges at 4 ohms it will put out 600 watts), then yes, that's correct.
Don't worry about wiring the + and - coils together, it's not going to cause any problems, as long as you do it as the diagram suggests.

so the alpine type-r, which has an RMS of 200-500watts...would get roughly 300watts per sub if i get 2 of them...a little less since I should be a couple notches lower than full gain?
it's not always about feeding a speaker max power. the only time that speaker will get max power is when you're on full volume and burping your system for an SPL show.
That's one reason I keep saying it's OK for speakers to be around the wattage requirements, but they don't need to be exact.
you need to properly tune your amps, not just peg them then turn them down a bit!

alrite thank you, so 2 4-ohm DVC alpine type-r's that are 200-500rms, wired to be 4-ohm on a bridged 600w x1 @ 4-ohm...would be a decent match?
(my audio system is becoming a mutt)
I also heard that underpowering a sub can lead to distortion which can lead to blowing a subwoofer? if thats true, how much of underpowering is needed in order for that to be a problem?
underpowering it can lead to distortion, BUT, if it's tuned correctly, you won't have any distortion.
If a sub needs 500 watts, 250 will do on a GOOD HIGH QUALITY NAME BRAND amplifier. As long as you have it all tuned properly and you understand the limits and can tell when you're distorting.
