    should i get an amp?

In my 96 firebird i have in the front pioneer TS-C160R and in the rear two eu-700 6.5" subs. They are currently being powered off of the factory head unit and sound alright execpt when i turn up the bass on my equalizer or try to play my music loud the subs start to kind of distort and dont sound good. Would an amp solve the problem with the subs? Should i get an amp to power just the subs or both the subs and components, if so what are some good affordable amps that would work in my situation?

definately need an amp for the two eu's. they will shine at 100-150 wrms each. are the eu's dual 2 or dual 4 ohm voice coils?

also you do need an amp for the speakers.

    what's your budget?

i'd get this amp for the subs.. probably

right now i have them wired for the dual 2 ohm(just connected to two of the terminals on one side)

so the amp will fix that distorted sound i hear when i turn up the bass?

i know amps get kinda pricey if i was going to wire the components/subs, so i might just have to get an amp for the subs

ive never installed in amp before, but ive read there are some that i can wire through my factory wiring. but if i chose to wire it myself how hard would that be for a noob?

You are going to blow up your factory radio with those subs connected. Your factory radio should only have 4 ohm speakers connected. 2 ohm speakers are way too difficult for it to drive.

Now you are also underpowering the speakers which will easily distort and destroy the speakers.

Your solution is either get a decent amplifier (this does not include amps purchased at Walmart, K mart or Target) or remove the subs. Your choice.

In regards to your noob question, and please, i am not trying to offend, it seems you are about a 2 on a 10 scale of Car Audio knowledge. Thats fine, everyone starts somewhere. Do what you can to read up on the subject (MANY hours of reading), spend some time asking questions in a true car audio forum (this one is designed for CarPC projects). Try to get to a 5 out of 10 and then start installing yourself.

If you don't have the time or ability to get to a 5, please stop by your local car audio shop and have them do it. Its what they are there for.

    Good luck

how does he know he's a 5? amp installation is pretty simple. what i would suggest is...yes do a lot more reading like will suggested, but also go to a local car computer meet near you and maybe have someone who knows what they are doing help you. if you are in socal you can hit me up and i'll work along side you and help you with questions along the way.
