    Angry Can't figure out why amps run so hot HELP

    I'm having a problem thats driving me crazy, hopefully someone out there can shed some light...

    I'm running 2 Diamond Audio 10 inch subs to a Diamond D6 1500 watt class D amp at 2 ohms (so they are only getting 750 watts total). There is a 1 farad capacitor on this amp. I also have a 400 watt Eclipse 4 channel running to eclipse interior speakers. My head unit is an Alpine 9835. All power cables are 4 gauge, including two 4 gauge ground wires coming off of the battery (to compensate for two 4 gauge power wires going to the amps). Both of these amps get hot enough to cook an egg off of. The sub amp even goes into thermal protection, but will come back on after a minute or so of the music being turned down. I can't figure out what is causing this. All the amps are matched to the power requirements of the speakers, and the Diamond amp which is supposed to be insanely stable is only running at half power.

    I've been deciding on whether replacing the battery, getting a second battery, or getting a more powerful alternator would help anything, but everyone I talk to tells me something else so the average response is none of those will work.

    Any help or insight at all would be greatly appreciated...

    Probably overimpedance. Could be your gains too.

    yeah, the class d shouldn't run real hot..., is it mounted upside down? that could also cause problems with overheating... along with too low of an impedance total..

    wow, quick response. And the posting twice was accidental, fisrt time using one of these. The gains were set professionally, so I figured I could trust that. I'm not too familiar with the concept of over impedence, is there another way to lower that other than gain? There is no bass boost knob on the sub amp btw.

    And as far as mounting, the amps are mounted to boards on each side of the trunk, so not flat, but not quite vertical either, kind of like \ and / if you can picture it...

    As far as amperes and wire gauge, I'm not sure how to convert amplifier watt output to amperes drawn. I have two four gauge wires running from the battery, one to each amp (1500 watt class D sub and 400 watt 4 channel) with two four gauge wires going to ground from the battery (ground wires from the amp are also 4 gauge). How wold I convert that into amperes?

    Also, I just bout an Interstate Red Top battery which I will put in with the same setup tomorrow (replacing honda stock battery). The only other thing I can think of is to change power wires from alternator to be 4 gauge as well...

    As for the install, wires are all clean, all power on one side of the car and all RCA on the other. I hope there's a difference tomorrow...

    look at the fuses on the amps. add them up and that is how many amperes you can draw at max.
