    Wattage worries...

Ok well I ordered my ID MAX 12, I haven't ordered the amp yet. But I figured it would be a good idea to ask this question before i get the amp.

The ED amp puts out around 900watts @ 2 ohms. the ID max can handle 1000 watts...

would there be any problems if I run the system like that? Or would it be better to run it @ 4 ohms instead for a 450 watt load...

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

I've never ran my tubes on much wattage and they've run great all this time, but I don't want to make the mistake of overpowering or underpowering this IDMAX.

i'd go with slightly overpowering it, as long as you don't cane it too bad for long periods of time, or drive the amp into clipping you should be OK. or you could run it 4ohms if you want to lower the distortion, as long as you don't clip you should be fine, ive never managed to blow a sub yet, well not by accident anyway.
    Progress: ~99%

run the eD at 2 ohms.

you're not going to be under powering it in all reality.

Just make sure you set your gains properly.

you'll never hear the difference between 2 ohms and 4 ohms in the sub frequencies. maybe up at 1k but not that far below it.

you also can cane that amp for long periods of time...it's one ohm stable. if you can, you may want to cancel the order and get a dual 2 ohm sub and run it at one ohm so you can get 1200 watts out of that amp. but save up for back surgery because that sub/amp is going to kick hard!

wait i'm confused. it isn't possible to run the same sub at 2 or 4 ohms.

if you have the dual 2 ohm version then you can run it at 1 or 4 ohms. if you have the dual 4 ohm version then you can run it at 2 or 8 ohms.... which do you have?

Oh my mistake! I have the dual 4ohm version. So it can run @ 2. I can still get the Dual 2ohm, because I just got the dual 4 so I can just return it.

But wouldn't that be a bad idea to give the sub so much wattage, when the sub is rated @ 1000?

200 watts won't matter, that's why I said to tune your amps.
