burn a cd and try it?
google the model numbers and see?
Hi,
I have an old KEH-P3700R HU with a CDX-P24S, and I wonder if by changing either one of these 2 units, I could reqd MP3 CDs.
Thanks!

Please post on the forums! Chances are, someone else has or will have the same questions as you!
I already googled and I couldn't find anything specific. These 2 units are too old and can't read MP3 CD's as is. However, I was wondering if, for example, I buy a new HU that is MP3-enabled, can I still use the CD changer and will it be able to read MP3 CDs from the changer.
ask the question on th pioneer web site
Thanks, but I couldn't find a forum on their website. And on their Support pages, they don't have my HU and CDC models (I guess they are too old).
I haven't seen a question like this before, but I believe that the changer has to be MP3 compatible to read the MP3 discs, though I can't tell you if that's true for sure.
I know that you will NEED to have your headunit upgraded to something newer to read any MP3's at all, however. Unless you have an RF CD changer with it's own seperate controller.

Pioneer cd changers do not support MP3 cd's but will play a burnt cd. make sure you know the difference.
Trying is the first step toward failure
Thanks guys. I know what is a burnt CD. I was just wondering if the CD changer could just read the data on any CD (either audio or MP3, which anyway are still a bunch of 0's and 1's) and that it would be the job of the HU to decode the data.
I just love the sound of my KEH-P3700R, so I guess I'll stick with this system for a little while.
Thanks again.
It's my understanding on the Pioneer cd changers that the HU does not do any audio decoding. The changer itself decodes the audio, and sends them analog to the HU. So I guess if you found a changer with MP3 support that was compatible with you HU, that would work.
I know some of the Neo Jukeboxes have cd-changer (IP-Bus) interfaces for pioneer. Not sure if it would work with your particular HU though.
EDIT: Well, they do have a cd changer adapter, but the Neo is no longer sold. That sucks, those were cool little devices. http://www.ssiamerica.com/products/neo35/neocdc.shtml
