    9860 and H701

    Hello,
I have a Carputer and I am trying to setup optical out. I purchased the H701 and the R701; however, I was told that the R701 had a remote control input. It does not. It is important because I wanted to mount the unit in my glove compartment instead of mounting it in the dash. I use a IR extender to route the remote signal into the glove box. That being said I went out and purchased a dva-9860 in an attempt to control the h701 via remote and now I cannot seem to figure out how to switch to the computer's fiber channel on the h701 for the input. I searched the board and there is another question that is exaclty the same; however, I did not see a firm answer. I was wondering if anyone had a solution or idea. Thanks in advance for the help.

Ok, so I'm an idiot and did a search for 9860 and not for dva-9860. When I figured that out I did find this:

“In Europe, the PXA-H701 is identical to pxa-h700. If you have a AINET HU and you connect pxa in AINET mode (not stand alone mode), this is the behavior:
SOURCE: CD ->pxa chose input through ainet cable N°1 or optical input N°1. If pxa feels optical 1 input, automatically switch from AINET analog signal to optical signal.
SOURCE: CHANGER (only if a AINET changer is connected) ->pxa chose input through ainet cable N°2 or optical input N°2. If pxa feels optical 2 input, automatically switch from AINET analog signal to optical signal.
SOURCE: TUNER ->pxa chose input through ainet cable N°1 or optical input N°3. If pxa feels optical 3 input, automatically switch from AINET analog signal to optical signal.
SOURCE: AUX (you need a HU with AUX mode option)->pxa chose analog input through RCA inputs.
Volume, balance, fader, subw level are all controlled by HU. After installation you can disconnect RUX and use only HU+PXA

IN STAND ALONE MODE instead you choose every input manually and Volume, balance, fader, subw level are all controlled by RUX”

Thanks to cougarz for that one!

That being said I have three questions.

First, can anyone verify that this is the way the US model works?

Second, Is there any way to trick the head unit into thinking there is a changer so that optical in 2 can be used?

Finally, when the computer is on but has no sound output does that mean the h701 will switch back to the ai-net interface or does the sound card/computer have to be turned completely off?

    Thanks again.

I actually have this exact setup, and this exact problem. so the conclusion is the alpine rux solves this problem, correct?

Ok, here's what I found so far. The rux will allow you to select any input; however, does not have a remote control input. In other words you have to do it manualy. If you turn on the fiber of the 9860 it will auto sense and then choose the fiber over the ai-net input. Tuner chooses digital 3 and cd chooses digital 1. I can't get anything to choose digital 2 so I don't know what to say about that one. Keep in mind that if you wish to continue to control the h701 from your 9860 you cannont use the input selection functions of the rux. It's a stupid situation that alpine has put us in, but it is what it is. I have both and currently use the auto sense function to listen to my computer over fiber to port 1 and have the 9860 set to cd. The loss is that I have to turn off the computer to listen to a cd in my head unit. Not a big deal for me 'cause I use the computer for cd's anyway. Good luck.

^^ it's just cuz alpine would never imagine that anyone would want to use an alpine head unit and a C701 in the same set up. I agree though...it would be nice if you could select the h701 audio source from the hu.
