    JBL/Infinity/Hifonics system. Question.

    Hello all.
I have spent large amounts of time lately trying to understand car audio and how it works. I have a 1994 Grand Prix, and I am trying to decide on what system to buy. I already have an aftermarket Panasonic MP3/CD player I bought in November, now I am trying to decide on the speakers. My car has 5 1/4"s in the front and 6X9"s in the rear.

Hopefully everyone's expertise will be able to answer my question.

What I am planning on purchasing is:

    JBL Power Series P552 5-1/4"s
    Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6"x9"s
    Hifonics ZXi 4406 amplifier.

The JBLs are 55 watts RMS @ 4 ohms.
The Infinity kappas are 110 watts RMS @ 2 ohms.
The Zeus amp is rated 4X55 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, 4X110 watts RMS @ 2 ohms.

The reason I chose the JBL speakers aside from the good reviews, they are exactly half of the Kappas with twice the resistance. From what I understand, speaker impedance is a constant (not accounting for different frequencies, I mean just for this discussion).

So even if I run the amp at 2 ohms, the JBL speakers are 4 ohms no matter what and will only actually be getting 55 watts instead of 110, correct? I would love to get as close to the maximum wattage for both the fronts and rears, but without damaging anything.

If sells speakers in sets of 2, this whole system will set me back $420 (plus amp install kit, shipping, etc). Which is not bad for an old car like mine. (and if not, add $230, and it will still be worth the money from what I've heard... hehe)

If you have suggestions on what I should buy, ie. something that's better, please let me know.

    Thank you for any input.

The car audio forum is dedicated to integrating your car audio system with your CarPC.

For specific questions such as the one you have I would recomend checking out car audio specific forums:
    et. al.

there is a chance that someone on here might have an answer for you, I would just hate for you to wait around for it when I know you could get an answer much quicker on a dedicated forum.

    Good luck.

This site is dedicated to CarPCs and all that goes with that.

Since your questions is strictly related to Car Audio, might I suggest that you find a dedicated car audio forum to post your question on.

It's not that you won't find your answer here, it's that you are more likely to find it and more likely to find it quicker on a dedicated car audio forum.

    Good luck.

No and yes. You've got 4x6s in the front doors and 6x9s in the rear deck.
