Try a ground loop isolator on one of the inputs (computer or head unit). I had a very similar problem and this did help. Surprisingly what did not help was an isolator on the output of the switch.
Ok guys got a problem, I've got a car stereo and a headunit connected to one of those AV Switches, and the amp connected to the output like this :

Heres the problem, when I have both inputs connected to the switch, I get some background noise. When i disconnect one of the inputs (either one), the noise goes away.
This leads me to believe that its just a **** AV Switch (i bought it from jaycar).
I went to dicksmith and tried one of their better $40 AV Switches. The noise wasn't as bad as the jaycar one but it was still there and still the same issue (noise with both in, disconnect either input, noise goes away).
The DSE dude said perhaps the units are just crap and since they are manual switches they still make some form of contact and i'd need to get a remote switch or something.
Any ideas ?
The switch doesnt take any power or anything.
Its just got a rocker switch on the top and on the back it has 2 sets of rca inputs and 1 set of rca output.
Not the exact model but its like this :

Why not run the HU into the line in of the PC? Or the PC into the aux in of the HU?
1) I tried headunit ---> line in. Worked decent, but even with my audigy2nx there was a bit of noise in there, i couldnt achieve a decent balance between volume and clarity.
2) Dont want to do sound card --> HU because i want to control the volume of the carpc through the touch screen.
I would try grounding your head unit and pc (case) to the same place.
Peace.
