the issue with usb sound cards is because they are on the usb bus, they get initialized later in the boot than a pci card does, thats why they usually still cause thump later on than an onboard or pci card does.

most people are probably just overlooking the issue to be honest.

I'm gathering that the next version of the DSATX will have this feature built in?

Hopefully, i'm trying to get jeff involved as this is a real problem. Hopefully he can do a few minor changes to the firmware as it seems the dsatx is built for it but it wasn't implmented (aux delay-timer)

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking... What if I take the 12v+ from the USB ...extend it to the amp, which relays the signal to the amp. That way when the usb sound card gets recognized, the amp is turn on the same time. What do you guys think? BUT, the problem is i need to turn it off before the sound card turns off... Any ideas?

Heres a site that will compute what resistor and capacitor to buy for the delay time you want.

I didnt build mine yet. Hoping to make progress this weekend. Next question is how to turn off the amp before windows shuts down...

    Use ampcontrol.

Its a windows service which uses the Serial Port to turn on/off ur amps.
Search for it in these forums also look for "ampctrl".

One problem with Serial ports though, is that when the PC boots up.. the pins on the PORT go high/low randomly - this will turn your amps on and off quickly whilst the PC boots (not desirable) before it gets into windows.

Build yourself a little "delayed turn on" circuit, so that the serial port trigger must be high for a full 1-2 seconds before it triggers the amp to turn on. This alleviates the problem discussed above.

Alternately, you might be able to use a USB-> Serial adapter to prevent the outputs from swinging during bootup. I havent tried this method.. but it might work, as the SERIAL port is only ready when windows loads the drivers for it.. and not during POST.

    Peace

Only issue there is the usb only outputs 5v, so you'd have to find a method of using that to trigger another relay that would run the amp P-ON line.
