Okay, its time to get the line driver

System is pretty much all together and I think ive done all the research I need to on line drivers (was a noob) and naturally, I went to ebay to look for items.

First I saw this item: http://cgi.ebay.ca/PHOENIX-GOLD-TANT...QQcmdZViewItem
Looks fairly cheap, and only 2 channel. Doesnt appear to have adjustable gains?
And then theres the all mighty audiocontrol unit:
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/AUDIOCONTROL-MATR...QQcmdZViewItem
6 channels would be nice, I would like to have that much control over my rca's, but thats a little pricey
And another phoenix gold item: http://cgi.ebay.ca/PHOENIX-GOLD-TLD2...QQcmdZViewItem
which is basically the same part number as the first one listed, I dont get it... this one is 6 channel and has adjustable gains? Then why isnt it more expensive?
    planet audio: http://cgi.ebay.ca/PLANET-AUDIO-6-CH...QQcmdZViewItem
Seems decently priced, maybe too cheap
And finally another audio control unit: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Audio-Control-Ove...QQcmdZViewItem
Which just looks like a cheaper version of the good one.

So the question I ask you guys, is it worth it go all out on an rca driver? I CAN budget for the expensive AC one, and I dont know how pheonix gold quality relates to high quality stuff, but that 6 channel one looks nice. Do I need to go all out? Ive only got 2.8v output, and would like to have amps work at higher efficiency and get a little more power from em with a line driver. Is the expensive AC unit neccesary in terms of a good line driver?

Do you have noise in your system using the 2.8V outputs?

Phoenix Gold is also a good brand. I have never used Planet Audio so I cannot comment on the quality of it.

    Where are you located? Canada?

I have an Audiocontrol Matrix 6 channel from my old setup just laying around. The thing is Mint Condition besides the marks from the mounting screws.

I'll send you a pic of it if you are interested. I'll let it go for a good price as soon as I figure out how much it costs to ship to Canada.

I also have a Audiocontrol Master Volume Control 6 channel I also need to get rid of if anyone is interested.

personally i'd go with a linedrive/x-over combo. you'll have the added quality of the audio control x-over instead of the ones on your amps and you'll have a driven signal to boot.

another thing you may want to research; http://www.soundstream.com/processors-mtube8.htm
i have no idea about the quality of this piece but it has 3 sets of outputs as well as a second aux input (read: xm input?) and will give you a nice tube pre-amp.

    or something else to research:

hmm, 2 good replies thanks guys. durwood, yeah man send the pics!!

scott, i dont know if the xover is really neccesary, as the MBQ's have built in crossover (dropped 37 and below, and splitting at 2500hz between the components). Sub amp has subsonic filtering and the typical crossover. And thats where the majority of the power will go to. The other speakers will just be high passed at 60hz or so. Is it really neccesary? Never had a crossover system like that in any car.

oh and I dont know if there will be any noise, I havent installed it yet. Its still sitting here next to me

i can only speak from my personal experience but my audio control linedriver/x-over addition really tightened up the sound in my install. i think it may have been due to the line driver and the fact that the x-over were 4th order 24 db/oct slopes

Well the line driver itself should definately tighten it up, just the fact that you are getting more input voltage... no? Im trying to get ahold of durwood, because if I can get that 6channel driver for less than that on ebay ill be happy

line driver will reduce the noise while an active x-over will give you steeper x-over slopes and my give you a cleaner signal then the onboard x-overs.

damn, well I dont want to be sacrificing any quality. What unit are you thinking would work good, still around the same budget. I guess whatever is the best bang for buck is what ill go with, and if dur comes through with his pics and a decent price, ill probably be picking that up. Just because its a good unit and not retail price, if you are readin this durwood: PM ME.

As an aside on the PG unit, I just picked up one of the 6 channel units, and am very much not impressed with the build quality inside. Very much not the PG I grew up with. However, the gains are adjustable, the knobs are under the cover (inside the unit).
