Engine noise

So i spend 3 days straight of running wires, tearing apart interior, etc to get everything installed, and checked quite often to make sure it was working by putting car into ACC... sounded great.... got everything hooked up well and it sounds great, well i get into my car and my friend and i get ready to go for a test drive and take a listen

clean up enough to go for 10 min or so and get in the car, turn it on, and engine noise out the a**.... unbearable engine noise.... so im like "hmmm whats going on?" and finally figure out that the amp if gain is turned down its bearable at least.... so turn amp gain all the way down, and leave it for the nite...

i start trouble shooting, running RCA"s through the center of the car and through the outside of the car, still there.... try different ground points and every where i try its the exact same thing.... so i head up to an audio shop and talk with them....

they do all the same stuff i just did and mess with it for about an hr... finally they think its the amp but try a different HU just to be safe... and guess what it goes away....

and the HU was fine with stock speakers... but not with RCA's... so i got a bad Pioneer RCA out

it really sucks.... oh well such is life so i get to RMA it and be w/o sound for about a wk lol ugh....

It's common that the radio is the cause to you're ground looping noise. I've had that be the problem with many different types of aftermarket decks

how long have you had the pioneer for?

twas brand new.... lol had the issue from the day i got it (about 2-3 wks ago)

its a Premier DEH-p9800BT so it has a 2 yr warrenty on it lol just annoying

I had this same problem. I ended up getting a noise filter from a local shop that plugs into the rca outputs on the cable coming from the pc. The filter then plugs into the amp. Cleared it up real nice.

depending the amp, it's sometimes needed to do the grounded shield trick with the rca's on pio's. if the HU is going back for warranty, and it's the microfuse on the preamp, make sure and specify for them to put a bigger one back in.

maybe it's bigger than pio likes, but i have them put in a 2 amp instead of the .5 it comes with, for any warranty return we send in.

just for a heads up, it's a tiny soldered on fuse. you don't want to try and find it to replace it yourself.

damn, you just got it? Where'd you buy it from? have them replace it. Or send it out to be serviced by Pioneer...just it's easier if you bought it local and have them replace it

You never answered this. UTP cables have an advantage over regular coax, STP cables have an advantage over UTP. You never mentioned what kind of car you had either. If your radio isn't grounded well enough through its ground wire it'll grab a ground any way it can, even through your RCAs to your amp which would cause MASSIVE amounts of noise.

shadow sry about the few days wait had something come up IRL that called my attention lol

anyways i am using Kicker Kl25 RCA's http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3926.html

it is a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT without the kicker upgrade, and i know the ground is fine for 2 rsns. first it was grounded to a seperate ground point (not the harness from the factory), and i tried a few different points to no affect. second when a different HU (Pioneer DEH-5800 if i remember right) used the same ground point and power lead and exact same everything.... no noise with the 5800

ps we tested with both the Kicker RCA's in the car and such, and also with different cables run outside the vehicle... made no difference between the two sets

i could get a filter... but why should i have to get a filter for a problem that was with the unit from the factory? and it has a 2 yr warrenty so might as well lol
