I'll have to take the deck out again and see if I can get the test light in the back of the stereo connectors while it's hooked up.

I'm keeping the factory system in the car for now, it sounds pretty good as is, I just wanted to add an amp and a sub just to get a little more of a kick then what the stock system can give.

turbocad6, the retained accessory power circiut that you're talking about, would I still be able to run my turn on lead to my amp from that asuming I can find the wire?

If that doesn't pan out, I'll check the hvac, and the acc wire under the dash.

the rap circiut is when you park & turn the key off, the radio & windows & stuff continue to be powered for up to 20 min unless you open a door.... the rap circuit can be tapped at the stock radio, but when you remove the radio it no longer functions...

I would highly recommend retaining the rap circiut by adding the onstar module if the radio is removed... then nothing needs to be butchered at all

with the stock radio, check for ign power at the radio, but with the radio actually plugged in so the data lines are intact...

Do not use a test light on a radio that is controled by the bcm. You will short the data line and thats not to good! Remove the hush panel and the panel on the end of the dash. The bcm is located at the end of the dash with three connectors. I have provided the pinouts. Pin 23 on connector 1 is switched accy. Do yourself and your expensive car a favour and buy a digital multimeter before you touch anything because if things go sour no dealer on the planet will help you with warranty. Trust me I am a manager at a company that has the cotract to repair delco electronics.

rap wasn't important to me. there are modules from pac-audio and top-down tech that will allow you to retain rap but i didn't see a need for it. as far as onstar...i only have a c5...no onstar :-( though i dont think i'd use it either :-)

tyman, thanks for all the info. One question though, what do you mean by hush panel? I do have a good digital multimeter. Couldn't I just splice into the acc line off of the stereo?

What about the onstar module, is there anything off of that that I could use?

I didn't realize that it was going to be this big of a pain just to run a remote turn on lead

if it's active then yes, thats the best place to do it, but i thought you said it wasn't active? if you get the rap/onstar module then it should reactivate the acc lead iirc

when I first tested it, I had everything unplugged, and by the sounds of it, having everything unhooked turns the acc wire off. I'm using the factory deck, so I shouldn't need any other modules correct? The system works the way it should when it's all hooked up, everything stays on when the key is removed until the door is opened, and the stereo won't turn on until the key is turned on.

Just to make sure I don't hurt anything, when testing for the acc wire with the multimeter, put the negitive terminal on the ground then try the different wires? What setting should the meter be on?

oh... if you're keeping the head unit then yeah, just tap off hte acc lead. set the multimeter to dc voltage and you should be good to go.

The hush panel is the panel directly under the driver's side dash. Use a bosh 5 connector style relay and connect as follows: ploe 85-ground,pole 86-accy(from connector at bcm), pole 30-+12v battery from bcm, pole 87-to amp turn on connector. This way the amp will turn on and off with the ign key. And you will not damage any control modules.
The factory radio is controled by class2 data line and therefore there is no accy voltage at the radio. The electronics in your vehicle are very delicate.
If you need anymore help just pm or ask here.
    peace.
