Noob - 06 Xterra and Rockford Fosgate

This site is great and I've spent untold hours looking around at all of the great information - but it would seem that no-one has tackled anthing similar to my situation. So I have to ask...

I need some guidance/information about connecting to the Rockford Fosgate system I have in my 06 Xterra. I've got professional experience in car stereos and computers so I'm not new to what needs to be done, but I'd rather ask for information before I attempt to trace every wire myself.

My X has a great double din opening mounted up high for ease of use and is just begging for a Car-puter. I think I've got an idea on everyhting to do except how to tie it into the stereo (and hopefully use the steering wheel controls for something?)

Anyone give a guy a clue?
Thanks for eve thinking about it.

How do you want to tie it into the stereo? Are you going to use a HU or go directly from the soundcard to the amps?

Forgot to be specific - oops. The plan is to replace the HU wiht a custom (sort of) double-din PC unit, or a combo of single-din units (LCD and PC). Either way, the object would be to "replace" the HU and tie it directly to the RF amp. I know I'll need a decent audio interface capable of more than 2-ch stereo...

My dad has a 06 Xterra, so here goes... The opening thats there does indeed beg for a touch screen.

So heres my idea that might help you. If AM/FM is not an issue and you dont mind loading cd's via usb cd drive or wherever you mount the PC. Just skip the HU all toghetor mount the LCD where the DUAL DIN unit was and interface the computer to the amp itself. The Stock wheel controls need to be adapted to the computer, I believe GOD_OF_CPU has a post on how he did it in his G35, same principle applies.

Thats basically how I did it in my RSX, which has a dual din unit and an amp stock.

    Smile too much info...

Sat-Fat - I appreciate the info. I just spent a long while spider-webbing my way around all of those posts/links.

As for your questions - I would like access to the PC at the dash with a moveable LCD (Pioneer AVIC-Z? comes to mind...) And while AM/FM would be nice, I find regualr radio in my area lacking, and as such have been a Sirius listener for over a year - so it is more important. I've seen the threads for integrating the Alpine Sirius unit and am looking that direction.

Your post lead me to another which lead to the tech-ref site for Nissan, and now that I have the schematics for my truck, much is clearer. The wiring interface will be easy using some 3rd party harnesses no matter where I mount the PC.

Which brings me to the SW Controls. The tech-ref shows that the controls are variable resistance - which isnt' the same as GOD_OF_CPU's install, but there are a few references to my situation that I can take advantage of.

If I can make them work the volume (and perhaps change the source) I will be in heaven!

If ANYONE has any more information that you might want to share with a new guy, I would be most grateful.

Otherwise, I think my other questions are better off in another forum topic.
    Thanks
