Car amp goes into protection mode

Hi all i was recently jus cruisin down the road with my amp on workin fine, then all of a sudden it shuts off and when i turn it back on the protection light comes on? so i took it all apart and i moved the amplifier i mounted it on the back seat in the boot, i reconnected it all etc, then tried it again still no luck i dont know if mouting it on the back of the seat has an effect on it? because it is screwed into metal? or if the amp is broken or ive blown somethin? my bro tried something he took the earth off from where is was under the seat connected to the chassis of the car and then tried to turn the amp on again, its supposed to not even work cuz there is no earth but it still comes on into protection mode? any help will be much apreciated, thx bobby

    bad ground (earth)

unmount the amp, place it on something like carpet. dont bolt it down. Connect to a good ground source with a good thick cable. See what it does.

The amp is pulling ground through your RCAs and using your radio's chassis ground.

Unplug the RCAs and the amp will turn off, I almost guarantee it.

PS, if the amp did come on your car would probably catch fire since it'd pull 10+ amps over a 24AWG wire.

Hi thanks for your reply. the thing is the amp used to work fine, then it all of a sudden cut off, but when it did work it used to have an altonator whine on the speakers and the speakers n sub used to pop when it came on also, sometimes i had to keep turning off n on my head unit like 10x b4 the amp would come on, then one day it jus cut off altogether. n thats the stage im at now, one of my rca cables is dodgy, because one has snapped inside so my old man replaced it with some dodgy fix up by puttin a screw in it and pluggin it into the amp lol sounds messed up i know but costs 20 for a new wiring set. i will give your idea a go 2moz at work thx for your help

Shadow you was right about the rca's and yes the amp did turn off, so i re earthed it put the amp to its basic state, with jus the power, remote wire & earth cables connected to the amp. then tried it still no luck the amp goes into protection mode. ive tried 3 different earths and still no luck? then my bro earthed it to the negative on the battery and the amp was workin come on green light then it blew the fuse in the fuse holder near the battery? so i put another fuse in the fuse holder tried it again and it jus went back into protection mode i really have no idea whats goin on with this amp its a pain. any help wud be apreciated thx
