    PCI Sound Card

Due to the fact that I'm kinda limited on the number of USB (and other) ports on my Via M-II-12000 motherboard I'm considering to buy a PCI soundcard.

I'm initially just going with stereo sound but I might upgrade to 2.1 or 4.1 later onwards.

The sound cards that I am considering are (all Creative Labs) :

    - Audigy2 ZS
    - Audigy4
    - XFi
    - XFi Extreme Music

Could anyone give me the pro's and cons for these cards, and/or suggest some others?

    Sincerely,
    Jurgen

The Audigy2 ZS I think is the best card out of all of them.

The XFi is a close second, but I don't think it's worth the extra money for not really getting much. The Extreme Music is just the XFi with some addons that you'll never use in your car. I don't know what the Audigy4 is....

All I know is the Audigy2 ZS is the best value and one of the best cards available, I've had one in every computer I've owned and always recommend them when people ask me for parts lists.

I'd look into other brands than creative... They have OK cards, might even say good cards, but basically your paying for the brand. Why would you wanna go with PCI? Yes, I know, you said your limited by number of USB-ports, but you could easily work with a hub.... I'm not gonna name all the options you have, but here's a few other brand than creative:

    M-Audio
    ESI / Audiotrack (same company)
Voyetra / Turtle Beach (also the same company)
Edirol / Roland (you get the picture)
    Terratec
    ...

I'd say: , visit some websites and some forums

How are you going to run the sound from the PC to your audio system? Are you running directly into an amp? Are you running into a Crossover or an EQ off some kind first then your amps?

The MII12000 has a built in PCMCIA card slot. If you're not using that slot already, you can look at the Audigy2 ZS for notebooks.

Don't forget, there's always the option of getting a USB hub to plug into your CarPC to broaden the number of USB ports you have avaliable.

I have the Audigy 2 ZS in my computer and it is awesome. Do a search for kx project drivers and you'll find some nice information about utilizing those drivers.
