    Pioneer CD-UB100 USB-adapter

Hi, first post for me on these forums!

I'm looking at getting either an Alpine (9847, 9852RB or 9854R) or Pioneer (6800MP or 7700MP) HU and want to connect either a 20GB (or more) USB-harddrive or an MP3-player with a HDD of the same size (NOT iPod).

Was at first thinking about using the Alpine KCA-620M adapter but after seeing the price and reading about it here that doesn't look so attractive...

Then I saw Pioneers product preview for 2007 and noticed the CD-UB100 USB-adapter there.
But I can't find any info if it can read from a USB-HDD or if it's only for thumb drives.
Anyone have any info on that?

Otherwise I'll just get something like the Archos Gmini XS-202 and use a line-in adapter...

I'm not 100% but I don't believe you can connect a drive like you've mentioned. I believe that only the USB keys will work on those head units.

    Compatabilty

    Hi Guys,

The CD-UB100 will support memory devices unto 250gb that have been formatted in Fat 12,16 or 32. It can have up to 15000 music files on it in up to 500 folders.

    It can play...

    MP3 files (MPEG1, 2 and 2.5 audio layer 3)
WMA files (Created by Windows Media player version 7, 7.1, 8, 9, 10 and 11(without DRM))
MPEG4 AAC files (iTunes encoded only (without DRM))

The unit will connect to any Pioneer head unit with a 'P-Bus' input...

Iv'e tried it with a bus powerd HDD and it works quite well...

can you please give us a bit of background?

We do appreciate this information, however, until we have verification as to how you know this, it's a bit like hearsay. Not to come across as doubting you at all, just want to make sure this is legitimate information.

Where in the world would be without trust....

I have been lucky enough to get my hands on a service manual and a pre-production version of this bit of kit, just been checking it through and thought that everyone would like to know.

I understand needing to trust, but when someone states something without sources, etc. it's difficult to put much weight in their statements.

    Thanks for clarifying.

    Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, just a quick stupid question.

Does that mean the CD-UB100 will work on a DEH-P6850MP(equivalent to P6800MP)? Has anyone tried it on the 2006 line of head units?

    Cheers,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

Yep, the 'P' before the model number means that it has a 'P-Bus' socket on the back, this can be used with any Pioneer P-Bus add on but the quality of the function depends on the head unit.

If the head unit doesn’t 'understand' the device that has been connected to it they will work together in a simple compatibility mode, this works but it is a bit 'clunky'.

The CD-UB100 will give you an 8 character display on the head unit, this will show USB F001 when playing a file and when your moving from file to file it will display USB T001 ect....

The more advanced 2007 units will give on screen display of the folder and track name.

I hope to have some video from my DEH-P6800MP online soon.

    Any other questions guys....

    Pioneer Man,

Do you know if the Pioneer CD-UB100 USB-adapter will work with the Pioneer Premier DEX-P9 & DEQ-P9 Head Unit and Processor?

    Hi PioneerMan,

thanks for the info. This is what i found in the 07 product preview catalog. I have it as a PDF file it.

    IP-Bus USB Adapter Ready*
The IP-Bus USB Adapter (CD-UB100) helps make it simple to expand
a Pioneer car entertainment system’s listening library. Connect it
from the head unit to a portable digital player or USB memory device,
and gain convenient access to digital music files that have been
compiled and edited on a personal computer, then transferred
    to the portable device.
NOTE: Unauthorized copying of music is strictly prohibited.
    *Compatible with DEH-P6950IB, DEH-P5950IB, DEH-P4950MP and DEH-P3950MP.

On the bottom there with the star condition. It mentions that only works with the Px9xxMP or the Px9xxIB series headunits. Also when you said USB T001 file naming, does it show folder names? or are they all just numbers?

Yeah would be great if you can post some vids up. Thanks for all the info the thing with the 07 line is that it doesn't have a headunit that comes with built-in bluetooth (DEH-P7850BT or DEH-P9850BT not sure what those models are named as in the US) because at the moment i would like to get either one of those and then get a CD-UB100 so that it can use USB flash drives or USB HDDs. Any other suggestion on how to get bluetooth and USB at the same time if i want to stick with the Pioneer brand.

    Cheers,
    Jim
