    digital signal help

i am long time reader, first time carpcer and i am about to set up my carpc system with my subs and amp in the back and after browsing deep into these forums ya'll have me convinced to go with digital sound, and so since i needed my speakers amped anyway, i started looking at the 5.1 amps with digital in to connect to a sb live external card. My questions come at this part,
is there a way to make use of my current mono channel amp, that does not have a digital port, and have 5.1 surround sound? i cant find nor would i want to use a digital to whatever converter.
Can i send the digital signal from my live soundcard to the 5.1 amp and have the subwoofer signal sent out unaffected to my original sub amp?
I am concerned about a doubly amplified signal going to my subs.
could i turn down all the sub settings on the 5.1 amp?
Or maybe could i get the sub channel from the 1/8" port on the sound card and still have the digital signal being sent out and maintaining the surround sound?

    any helps appreciated.
btw a bangin carputer comin your way soon
construction starts as soon as i figure out this problem.

i guess the best way to accomplish what you're talking about is to see if you're amps have a pre-out so you can go digital to the 5 chan amp and then send a full signal to the sub amp via rca's, then use the mono amp's internal x-over to get a low-pass signal to it

You can do it your way or the way scott suggests by daisy chaining the amps together. The soundcard should allow you to run analog out and digital out at the same time. Did you want 5.1 sound or just stereo output to all your channels? Either way you can do both. Hint: the CMSS setting with the creative products.
