Thread: overcurrent in my amp, how do i fix it?

Have you checked out your User's Manual to find out what it says may be the cause of your proplem. There are many different types of problems that may be going on with your amp, for example:
1. You may have your speakers that are hooked up incorectly to that amp.
2. You're speakers/wires may have shorted out.
3. You're amp may be going out internally.

If you're problem is 1 or 2 then Does this still happen while your speakers lines are disconnected from the amp?
Although, if you're problem is #3 then there isnt much you can do but get a new amp, because it might not be easy to repair the amp.

But keep in mind that this forum is dedicated to carpc's, so you might be better off directing the remainder of your questions to the original manufacture of your product or to a dedicated car audio website->

there is a chance that someone on here might have an answer for you, I would just hate for you to wait around for it when I know you could get an answer much quicker on a dedicated forum.

you know, i wonder if it could have something to do with corrosion on the grounds. if there is more resistance in the wire then the amp will be asking for more current. but...pancit's 3 points are valid as well, i'd check all of them until you find your answer (a shorted voice coil sounds about right, or maybe a grounded speaker wire too)

"no" to what? if you have more resistance in the wire the amp will require more amperage to sustain the same power.

Scott referring to the resistance on the voltage inputs, not the resistance of a speaker/sub.

You're wrong / misunderstanding.

yeah, i guess it's just a miss understanding, it's partly my fault that i didn't specify power ground not speaker ground

anyways, I still would go with pancit's suggestions first then, assuming the overcurrent light doesn't only apply to the output of the amp, then check the grounds
