    Amplifier Hook-Up Help

Hey guys, this has been bothering me since I got my amp. Attached is a draw up of the speaker inputs on the amp.

Hope you guys can see this clearly. The two small boxes on the far left and right sides are the high level inputs and the round ones in the center are the low level RCA inputs.

My understanding is that low level inputs are for subs and high levels are for my regular speakers. After following this post HOW TO: Get sound from PC to Car Stereo / Amp , I came to the conclusion that I can just bypass those high input connectors on the amp and just run the RCA cables from my sound cards outputs to the low level inputs on the amp with no sound problems. Just let me know if this is fine or if im going to need a different amp.

    Thanks in advance guys.

PS, this is for a four speaker set-up.

If you are connecting preamp outputs from your HU, you are correct, the high level inputs are not needed. If you only have speaker-level outputs available (or any output that is already amplified) you would need to run them into the high level inputs.

The input is coming directly from the sound card. I wont be using an HU at all. Any suggestions?

Just to clarify... The Hi/Lo inputs have nothing to do with your speakers. It has to do with the source that's connected to the amp...

Your sound card output voltage is low enough, that you should use the low level RCA inputs...

Thanks that helps a lot. Just one less thing on my list to worry about.

hooking up 4 channel amp to new speakers. HELP!

Hi all I am new here and looking for some help already. I just put in a new head unit wired to stock speakers there are 2 3.5" and 2 tweeters in the front dash and 2 6x9s in back. I recently purchased some mid level 3.5s & 6x9s to replace the crap stock ones. The head unit list its a 50x4 so I was going to hook them up to a 4 channel amp that is 75x4. Will this make a big enough difference to make it worth it? In addition I believe there are 2 sets of RCA outputs coming from the head unit. is one for front and one for rear speakers? Can I run these to the low level inputs on the amp and is will this give me the best sound. I also forgot to mention that the stock speakers in front are hooked directly to the tweeters. Can I take them out and hook up the new ones the same way. I am not looking to enter into any sound competitions, but would like my music to sound good.

I apologize for starting out with a lengthy & what most will think are dumb questions.

Thank you to any and all that can help.

    welcome!!

    audio is so subjective...

will a amp make a difference? possibly, maybe, no... it really depends on how everything is setup. i could make it loud, but that requires installing crossovers... because 3.5" speakers will not take bass at all.

i don't think that it is worth the hassle for the small amount of gain that you might get-- i think that headunit power is going to be fine for the price.

oh, and i should add-- as a first poster in the car audio section-- this forum is primarily for installing computers in cars, so audio specific advice is on the slim side.. just something to keep in mind in your time here(there is a sticky at the top of the car audio section with some car audio specific sites in it)...
