You need to run 2 4ohm subs in parallel if your gonna use a 2 ohm amp. And if your using a 1200 watt sub, then a amp with similar wattage.

a 2 ohm amp just means that it's stable down to 2 ohm's, but it can run a 4 ohm or even an 8 ohm load...

it will probably make it's most power at the 2 ohm's, but also run it's hottest & will be a bit more distorted...

also, if you have a 1200 wrms sub (rms being the key word here) then you want to find an amp as close to (or above) 1200 wrms @ 2ohms as possible

If you're going to power a 1200 watt amp in adition to the 500 watt you already have you'll NEED to invest in a deep cell battery and significantly beefier alternator. 1700 watts in addition to what you already have in your system roughly translates to 120 amps....most car alternators don't push more than 90-105 amps.

    like he said^^^^

yeah, a real 1,700 watts rms is no joke & will take some serious power additions for sure.... chances are if your using cheaper components that "1,700 watt system" is really no wear near half that though....
