Can the same speakers be hooked up the an amp AND the HU?

Ok, this isn't so much a carputer question as much as a Car Audio question, but I hope someone can help me out.

I am planning on installing a Carputer in my truck. Unfortunately, I have Onstar, and my turn signal chimes are run through the factory HU. SOO, what I would like to do is install the carputer as a second source, and leave the factory deck as is.

However, this means I would have to run the speaker wire from my 4-channel amp (coming from the carputer) to the stock speakers, which will also be connected to the factory HU. Basically each speaker will have 2 sets of speaker wire running to it. Is that going to cause a problem?

Unfortunately, my HU doesn't have an rca input.

you have two options:
1) get the onstar interface from pac-audio and forget the stock head unit
2) get an aux input adapter, if you're gm radio has cd changer control, then you can get aux input.

the way you described could cause damage to either your amp or your head unit. if you could get a line level 'mixer' then you could do it that way, but it doesn't seem optimal.

You might have 3 options.... In April, car2Pc will be releasing 05+ GM PC adapter. www.Car2Pc.com. I'm waiting for it. What vehicle do you have.

this isnt all because you want to hear your turn signal bing bong, is it?

if you had the chance to mute that, wouldnt you?

though, the OnStar itself, goes thru your speakers, so youd need something or its useless!

I'm sure the concern is for any and all vechicle systems that go through the head unit - depending on the year and vehicle, that could be a LOT! On my GMC Truck, there is not way in hell I'm losing my factory HU it controls ridiculous amounts of things in my truck. My onstar, hands free calling, XM, the radio, steering wheel controls INCLUDING all of the Gas mileage computer displays, odoms, settings, personalization, chimes, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the input. The truck is an '06 Hummer H3, so just like J187's truck, pretty much everything is running through the HU.

I like the idea of an Aux. inpute... I don't know why I didn't think of that. The HU is XM ready (no XM installed) so it seems the Aux Input should be an option. Any idea on where I can get one of these adapters? Thanks again for all the input!

i think www.pac-audio.com has them for your truck. but wait for the car2pc adapter if you can. that would be ideal

VAN, providing the car2pc will be availble full feature for our trucks, it will allow not only audio integration, but also full control over track and volume through the HU Buttons and the steering wheel controls. I don't think its even more expensive than PAC units.
