Most of us are still in the process. It's not anything you go about in a few days. I don't know how far durwood is in the matter of really working with it now, but maybe you could contact him on it.
I read a lot about people wanting to use CarPC for tuning purposes.
Using console with VTS plugins to do x-over, eq, and time alignment. What I would like to know if anyone actually got any of that to work?
Thank you

He did contact me already. I'm pretty close. I had some soundcard issues the other day that prevented me from finally trying to make the switch. My plan is to get it done by this weekend. The computer is installed, the software is installed, I just have to work around a bad channel on my soundcard at the moment, and get my mouse scroll wheel hack volume control working. The only other person who might have done it already is Iceman_jkh. I think REDGTIVR6 is close too, but not sure how far she is. I know she has the new computer installed, but I don;t know if she has her software setup.
Also, another thing that sucks at the moment, is that Frequency Allocator resolution does not work at 800X600. You have to change to 1024x768 to adjust settings and then change back to 800x600 when you are done otherwise you will have problems. It can be re-skined but I suck at things like that.
System always under construction
I already am able to tune from my car pc. I think the only reason is because Zapco has the software for it and all you have to do is load it and connect the usb cable to it and away you go. Its nice when you cant carry your laptop with you, its a bit small but if you are familiar with the software it doesnt matter.Good Luck on your project guys!
Chef
I'm jealous of you!!!!! NONE of what I planned is coming the way I want it.
I'm at the moment thinking of putting this project aside for a while, since I'll nedd to start over with everything, from wiring to damping, since I'm buying a new car probably, but I don't know when that's gonna be. So for now, I'm putting my old sony deck in again and gonna run the cpc via the aux over the stock speakers that are still mounted in the back....

So like I thought, there is only 4-5 people on this forum that are actually trying to do this. I'd think that there would be more SQ guys jumping on this, but I guess I was wrong. Durwood could you write a how-to (when you done testing your system) on what programs you used and how you used them.
By the way what audio card are you using, and are you still going with console as your program to make plugins work together?
PS: Are you going to test the outputs on the card with oscilloscope to see if VTS cross-over plugin sends any >20Khz and <#Khz frequencies through the tweeter while the PC is booting up? Thats one of the things that I am scared of cuz I don't have any Premiums to spare.
Great Forum guy's, I guess I learned a lot during the last week.
Hey, its not that others arent doing it, seeing as how you only have been a member for less then a month now... I can see you probably understand that most of this "community" is actually lurkers, I'm sure people are doing it, just not going around telling the whole world about it.
I'll be doing it, but unfortunatly I have to wait until summer when I have time and a little extra funds... Check back with me in August, and you'll see its done. (along with the rest of the new system)
Edit: If you are worried about extra signals being sent through the system while booting.. Why don't you just adjust the cross overs on the amplifiers? Just make them lower then what the computer would be doing... For instance, If you were to have your tweets cross over at 5,000, just set your amplifier cross overs at 3 or 4,000... This way when the computers running it will just over ride the cross overs you set...
What I was planning on trying
What we're talking about here is not using an extra processor in line, but rather doing all tuning from the PC then directly out of the computer to the amps.
That software looks identical to the Focal software...
Did you think that 40 people would be on here for it?
Most serious SQ folks see the drawbacks to trying to get good quality sound out of a computer. It's not NEARLY as easy as dropping a CD player in and being done with it. It takes a lot more time, knowledge, and research to get it to the point that you can show with it.I'd think that there would be more SQ guys jumping on this, but I guess I was wrong.
There's already a few WIKI articles that outlines the process. You can search the wiki from the search feature here in the forum. Just be sure and select "Show Wiki Article"Durwood could you write a how-to (when you done testing your system) on what programs you used and how you used them.
Check everyones work logs, everything is lined out in there. I've lined mine out, Durwood has lined his out as well.By the way what audio card are you using, and are you still going with console as your program to make plugins work together?

There might be more but like a few others said, there are people who soak in info/research and then go do it on their own and never post about it. I knwo there are more floating around if you do into some other forums more realted to SQ stuff, but this is more of a geeky website with tons of little mods that you probably won't find elsewhere. So there are only a handful of audiophiles on here that I have noticed over the past few months.
As Red said, I have some details in my worklog in my sig, but I would like to do a guide as soon as I know its working and have the details worked out. There are alot of little details that are going to make it interesting and definitely not easy. I will try to do a guide as I said in my PM's, but it coudl be a bit, I was goign to write guide on the KXproject too for another user but I got sidetracked on this instead.Durwood could you write a how-to (when you done testing your system) on what programs you used and how you used them.

Yes that could be a problem. I have an oscope and will attempt to check this for you, but there are other ways around this. A timed group of relays to turn the speaker outputs on and off will be great for this...2k1toaster is currently building a usb relay board (Hardware section) which I hope will take care of this as well as my normal turn on nosie from my old amps.PS: Are you going to test the outputs on the card with oscilloscope to see if VTS cross-over plugin sends any >20Khz and <#Khz frequencies through the tweeter while the PC is booting up? Please just be patient,I know you wanted to decide something within a month, but this is something we have been working on and compiling info since october, and actually a few people have been searching for this in the early of 06.

Most of the people working on this stuff aren't going to change their schedules just because someone else wants to do it quickly. It's more or less a slap in the face in regards to the amount of time and effort that's been put into this and those who have spent a LOT of time researching and buying product.
