Guess what direction I'm going to. Though I will only be using 2 for now, since I am very limited on space. But I'm looking for a new car and will be putting 4 subs in, if I have the space to get them in.

    Maybe a peerless XLS?

You could try PPI Pro 10, never heard it, but I think I remember reading some pretty good things.

How about CDT Audio - HD10SQ. This, I have heard. Its amazing.

I wouldnt bother buying a new sub. It is only a 2 inch difference you just need a good box. The 12w6v2 is JL's competition sub but if you want quality (but a higher price) go with a 10w7 (not gunna find it for $250). A 12 or 15 is good if you like 15Hz but you wont get that out of a 10. Bass Tubes suck in my opinion, i like big ported boxes but since size is an issue you may have to make a fiberglass box (search the forums) that will fit your trunk.

    A bigger box pumps out:
    1.Louder
    2.More Bass
3.Bass that is deeper and lower in frequency

the box volume recommended by the manufacturer's is always at least 2 times to small. So you should AT LEAST double the manufacturers recommended box size. Make the box at least twice the size that they say. They recommend smaller boxes because it sells more speakers and because THEY already decided and THEY dont think you need bass below 40 hertz! A 10 inch woofer in a 2 cubic foot box will put out deeper bass than an 18 inch woofer in a 2 cubic foot box. This is because the 18 inch woofer is suffocating and choking in a box that is to small. You may want to invert your sub (put it in upside-down) to make the inside of your box a little bigger because the woofer displaces some of the space in your box.

This is the equation to calculate youe ported box's resinance frequency:

Frequency Resonance = 51.71 x Square Root[(area port in square inches) / (Volume of box in cubic feet X port length in inches)]

    or in metric system units:

Frequency Resonance = 54.59 x Square Root[(area port in square meters) / (Volume of box in cubic meters X port length in meters)]

Below the system resonance the woofer will act like it is in naked free air, and move violently and may be damaged. Above about 3 times the resonance frequency the system will kind of behave like it is in a sealed box of the same size. In general, the larger the box and the larger the port the more sound output irrespective of the frequency.

    Hope that helps some.

I appreciate your trying to help, but you really shouldn't give out advice when you dont' know what you are talking about. That whole section about manufacturers listing HALF the volume required is complete garbage and utter nonsense and I dont' where on earth you got such a notion. Manufacturers suggest the BEST enclosure volume to tune the woofer to the overall BEST sound. Not always the Loudest, but the best quality/volume combination available. They sell woofers by getting a reputation for having great sounding subs, not because enclosure volumes are small. Make the enclosure too big and you've got mud. I don't think you have any idea how much science goes into figuring out the optimum enclosure volume, each of the T/S parameters are factored, common vehicle application, etc. etc. You can play the enclosure volume a bit to manipulate the sound to your liking, but to think you just take every recommended enclosure volume and double is just silly. Depending on the subwoofer, and you would be completely wrong about the 18" vs the 10" in 2 CU^. Do you really think that if Cerwin Vega KNEW damn well that their sub would perform much much better in a bigger box, that they would undercut themselves by half just to boast a small enclosure size? I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but you are spreading bad information around and its not fair to people who might read your comments and think that they are sound advice -- whoa, no pun intended!!

Personally I can recommend a Phoenix Gold Xenon subwoofer. I have been using mine for about 1 1/2 years now and I absolutely love it! Everyone that has heard it doesn't believe me that it is only a single 10" because of how loud and incredibly low it gets.

They can be had for right around $100 shipped on eBay.

I have been running a 12" Adire Brahma for about 2 years now and I love it. It is a bit expensive but deff worth it.

You really need to take a look at several subs and their specs to see what is going to work the best for your situation. You just cant take any sub and put it in a ported box and expect it to perform to your expectations. There are many different designs manufactures use to build their subs and they are not all equal. Just take inconsideration what J187 said and disregard what xxMikexx has to say.

I believe this discussion ends here. I have found SHIVAS!!!

    http://www.acoustic-visions.com/~aco...shiva_classic/

Rydin - that Brahma is only expensive in relative terms. Its on par w/ other $500+ subs. Its one of the better subs I have EVER heard period. Adire audio just delivers straight performance, no gimmicks.

BTW, I cannot vouch for that website, I just got excited as hell when I saaw the SHiva. Apparently they are coming back after being discoed in 04. According to that site anyway. I haven't heard this up til now. You won't find a better sub for the money, actually you wont find a better sub for a lot more money If this really is the second coming of the Audio Shiva, its the no-brainer choice for anyone spending under $300 on a sub in my opinion.

I just tried to follow up and find out more about this. Adire's email is down. Also, the number I have for Dan Wiggins goes to a fast busy signal. I sent a fax saying "please call" Transmission says it went through ok, we'll see.
