I finally found some good example code that put me on the path to generating the buttons how I want and below are the results. Sorry I don't have them in CFE to show you, but I don't want to risk messing it up without a good reason ;)
The real good part is that I should be able to relatively add other UI elements (check boxes, popup lists, sliders, scroll bars, etc..) based off this code unlike the old evil method.
Now it is up to you to decide which you like the best. Reply here for which you prefer.

- CarFrontEndButton - It was nice while it lasted, but it's time to say farewell in favor of one of the other contestants.
- BlackButton - Sharp and clean, but not too snazy.
- GradientButton - Still needs tweaking, but it is supposed to look like the HUD buttons that are found in iLife and 10.5.
- UnifiedButton - Think iTunes buttons (the black boarder is lost in the background), but rounded.
Personally I think the GradientButton will look the best. UnifiedButton could look good, but it would mean changing lots of changes to the look&feel of CFE that i'm not sure would pay off.
Thanks,
