Thread: Ban on Auto Apps? Serisously, people actually want to.

Tell me you go 100mph and don't look out for cops.
Most people that always go 10-15 or even 20 over the speed limit usually have a watchful eye out for cops. Why? Fear. Fear of getting a ticket, fear of having to pay for something they can't afford, fear of embarrassment, fear of getting your license taken away, fear of having to start your learners over again, fear of hearing **** from your folks. No matter the reason laws work at all is because they instill fear in people.

IMO fear is a horrible mechanism for behavior. :/

LOL.... I do watch out for Cops, but lately with all the stuff I have done to my car, they leave me alone. i literally was going 60 in a 30 and he did a u-turn behind me. Once he caught up, I was down to 40 but he then saw himself on the screen and instead pulled to the side of me. He was so focused on looking in my car that he ran a red light, had to stop and go in reverse to get back behind the line. I look out for them mainly because I do not want to be inconvenienced with having to stop. I was raised to embrass fear, so it doesnt bother me. Only thing that i do fear are certain bugs, spider webs and getting a virus, lol.

I think getting a Snow Leopard would fix all those fears

It's because ZX1 speeds that he doesn't have accidents....
(I think I'm correct on that call eh ZX1?)

Let's face it, we will have robot cars where all you do is set the destination, determine the route, music and volume (to a max of 640dBA-H of course!) and the vehicle does all the maneuvering.
And because if that, my vehicles will be banned (unless retrofitted or off-road).

Kinda like how all cars will be automatic any day now (sarcasm intended). People love driving too much to ever let it be a mandatory automated system.

i used to joke that every time i watch the news, i could find another product that could kill.. these days, it is getting more and more true.. and this fear of life that they keep pushing is really starting to bother me-- not the actual diseases, and what-not, but the way that they keep pushing the reality that so many 'new' things can hurt you...


it seems that these these studies are more concerned with coming up with ideas to protect everyone from themselves instead of teaching people to become smart enough to protect themselves..

this is another one of those cases. i agree with the other points being made-- no amount of laws will ever stop me from using my cell phone in my car. and the same would go for something like this-- i completely agree on the point that if auto-apps were banned, people would use the less-safe mobile apps...

i used to text a little with my old phone(t9 text input, and physical buttons helped), but with my iphone, it is impossible to text while doing anything else(i have to pull over, because trying to text at stoplights usually isn't long enough)-- it just requires too much attention to verify your pressing the correct letters..

on another note, it is kind of sad that all of these new app makers/designers will probably never come across a forum like this-- which has so much info, and well documented teething problems of usable ideas of what it takes to develop a car-friendly, or car-usable interface..

How far do we take this though? I mean are they going to start banning passengers? Are we going to be driving everywhere in tunnels so their are no outside distractions? Get real people. Since the car was invented people have been using maps while driving, Drinking/eating, putting on make-up etc.

In reality It comes down to the person behind the wheel. Some people are responsible, some are not.

I have never in my life had an accident as a result of speeding. All my accidents have been people running into me in slow moving traffic accidents. Most of the time it was people talking on their phone or people trying to speed behind me right up my a$$, and since i'm also going fast and drive a big car, I have to brake farther in advance. People behind me though think that because they are in a car, that they dont have to brake early with me.

See it depends. A person like me loves driving and it would take the enjoyment out of it if I had a car doing it for me. I barely even like to use cruise control. i remember my brother rented a luxury car (I think it was an Infinity) and it annoyed me so much because the car actually slows down itself when you get close to an object and it will accelerate itself and all, when using cruise control. It actually killed the experience. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. I understand making cars safer and them warning you, but once they start driving for you, thats too far. I think auto park is ridiculous. If your too dumb to park a car on your own and the car has to do it for you, then you shouldn't be driving at all. I have nothing against park assist though, i added it to my car, and it makes it so much easier, but its me physically controlling the car. The car is simply giving me guide lines to do it right.

Lolo, doing 20 over using my iPhone right now. Driving fast is not the problem but rather driving recklessly!

Some people can't do 2 things at once but think they can. I try to stay within my limits.
That's why I don't watch porn in the car too much of a distraction!!!

How did I live so long?
No seat belts as a child!
Lead paint on my baby crib!
Riding in the bed of the truck!
Played with gasoline and fire with no supervision!
Learned how to fly and crash in a home made airplane wagon!
Did countless of bad things in my neighborhood and dint get shot!
Went scuba diving 2 miles upstream from Niagara Falls without a licence and only 1 warning of let the bubbles go first!

However, IF there is a ban of any thing, I would say short-short skirts are the most dangerous!
