FMD!!! And FMD again! That reminds me of being able to "defeat PIRs by placing clear perspex over them". If you can do that - just use a paper bag, tape, or paint!

If manufacturers are that stupid - and I am NOT saying they aren't ('cos too often they are - especially as we "progress") - they deserve to be hacked. I mean, how hard is HWID?... MAC addresses, encryption etc.

This is like reading above about lights that turn with the car (which is banned in some countries) - that was available in the 1960's and much earlier. Like the "famous Volvo shock-impacting" bumper bars of the 1980s (or 1970s?) - a repeat of a 1924 bumper bar I once saw.

To quote the sniffer dog - been there, done that.

Forget what media reports - just get on bandwagon - endorse it and sell your skills.

How's that "internet button" going for President Obama?

and the amount of data capacity(i don't know of any oem/aftermarket systems that have 500gb of in-car storage)...
And this is where I think the concept we dream up will leap over the OEM's. Consider a system that has both local storage and mobile net connectivity. Maybe there are skins available that can be stored and transferred over the internet. Rather than downloading them, using an OSDash service, one could browse them and load them in the FE.

Then, begin extending that to other more real-time services like an OBD PID code lookup service or automotive maintenance service that will examine your data and look for anomolies everytime you upload a fresh batch of data. Real-time? Maybe not. Post-processing, or on a sampled basis? Sure.

The services can be written by for-profit businesses. Once you have mobile net access, the type of services are where the innovation takes place.

OEM's won't match that for a very long time.
