I haven't used either board but asrock does have InstaBoot which in theory should work good in carputer enviroment. just a thought SNO
I was just looking at that exact MSI board as well as the ASRock E350M1 AMD E-350 APU for $110 trying to figure out which one I want to use its up between these two boards. Anyone have any pro/cons between these two boards? I'll be running Windows 7 ultimate 32/64 (I have both) or was even thinking about tinkering around with Ubuntu 11.4 with the latest release of Ride Runner. I will be my first Carputer build so any input is welcomed.

just by looking over both boards, go msi. the hsf is far superior. instantboot isnt all that amazing...
So i looked at the power consumption for the Brazos chip. 18W TDP isn't that great compared to the 13W Atom D510 Let alone the Atom N570 @8.5W TDP. How can this even compete with my the Core i5 I have in my laptop @17W. Maybe Fusion can beat the i5 in graphics, but probably not much else. Anyone have any benchmarks?

Ok so this was what I knocked up. Sorry it's Aussie prices.
I think this is the reason the e350 platform is taking off because it's a whole pile cheaper than an i3 - i5 but still gets similar results (that benchmark doesn't seem to represent the reports I have seen..) Also not sure where you found your TDP figure for the i5 (admittedly mine are max TDP values but I would have said on average they would be higher by a bit) Think we need to wait for the platform to mature a bit further and have a few more people using it before we can get some more real world numbers on it.

Yeh, I was referring to the core i5-2537M. 17W tdp and should kick the crap out of Atom. Availability on motherboards and price may put it at a whole other level though.

Yep that's it.
There will always be better options but at a price. An I5 can be better but for just a touch more than an atom you can have something more powerful at the cost of a bit of power efficiency..
Be interested to see if the e350 actually uses less than the atom as on average it doesn't have to work as hard..
has anyone actually tried those boards? i'm seeing a huge fan on these units and i'm worried they will be noisy when running at full RPM.
I think I am going to be buying one of these in the next 2 weeks or so for a file server http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131697
I have the E350M1 in my carpc and it's a great board.
