Tesla Model S to support 3rd-party apps
Of all the features of the Tesla Model S, the 17-inch touchscreen has us frothing at the mouth. And according to Elon Musk, Tesla will allow third-party developers to create apps for their all-electric sedan.
Speaking at the Cleantech Forum in San Francisco, Musk said, "We want people to develop car-specific applications," with Tesla's CEO specifically citing that text-to-speech technology is key to reducing distracted driving.
We'll be sitting down with several Model S engineers tomorrow and plan to ask what kind of apps the automaker will have pre-installed in their new EV, what they're looking for from devs and when an SDK could be available. Expect a follow-up soon.
