the lag is terrible, i dont know if it's worth trying another gps receiver or if that's as good as it gets

    Hey Guys,

Im from Melb, Australia too, i have setup my bluetooth GPS (new globalsat iphone looking thing) with SirfDemo to SiRf mode with 57600 baud rate. I also enabled dead reckoning and smooth tracking (not sure if thats what it was called, did this a while ago). In NMEA mode the lag was tooo much, 3 or so seconds which is what you guys experienced. Setting it up this way i get around a 1 second lag, which isnt bad, but still isnt great.

I just upgraded from CF 1.47 to CF2.0 and changed my maps to the newer Q2 2007 maps (used to have Q1 2006) and drove around the block today to see if it made any changes. Seems to be a little better...

The lag is bearable and doesnt affect me too much, i noticed the most amount of lag is when i take corners - around a 2-3 second delay in realising that im on the straight and then goes back to behaving itself with the 1 or so second lag.

All this is in 2D mode btw. Hardware is a Via c7 2.0Ghz 1gb ram etc.

It would be great if destinator "smoothed" out the lag, i.e guess if the car is going on a straight, that it would be traveling the 20-50m's ahead and would allow the car icon to move smoothly on the map instead of the constant jerking map refreshes.

    Adam
