    dvd rom via usb?

hi, i want to connect my dvd drive up front (pc is in my trunk) and i wanted to go for the usb to ide method to do this.
my question is: if i connect my dvd drive via usb, how will CF recognize it? as usb device or as cd drive?

if you have the right adapter it should be picked up in windows as a CD/DVD drive and work just fine....

?? usb powers it, like it does with all the 2.5" drives etc...
there is an adaptor for a slimline dvd witch makes it to a normal IDE plug, and then you have a seperate power connector, but if you don't use that adaptor, then you have a small ide connector (2.5") and then you don't have a seperate power connector, since the power comes from usb...

at least that's what i thought, correct me if i'm wrong...

I have an external case for my slim drive and I have tested it on my computer (this one). It definitely needs a separate power source. I have read on here that using the 5v from a molex connector is the best.

i'm buying one of those adaptors from ebay, which transfers the ide connector to usb, so i just have to plug in a molex and that's it...
