I still hate the Centrafuse interface....

But I gotta give props where props are due. I loaded the mappoint plug-in into CF 1.47. Not only did CF start up A LOT faster than it did in 1.2 (actually had to reboot a few times because it 'appeared' to have locked up), but the NAVIGATION interface (I hate the home screen and popup "warnings") was quite intuitive and operated quite nicely.

    Good job! Now:

    (1) get over that "my name has to be in the middle of the screen", and

    (2) put more buttons in the work area (see suggestion 1), and you might just be on your way to having a product more people will be interested in.

So see, I am not THAT unreasonable.
    My opinion is my own.

As trititan mentioned, you can replace the logo with whatever graphic file you want. Version 2.0 is due within the next couple days and it's supposed to have a plethora of new features and functions, so stay tuned and try it out when it hits.

And by the way, "a product that more people will be interested in..." that's kind of funny don't you think? CF is the #1-used commercial front-end my friend (with RR being the most used overall).

Not that I am doubting you Nola, but where did that figure come from? CF started out as free, so it would have been just like RR. Then they went commercial, so first off, I don't believe it (again, nothing personal), and second, I would bet if this is their claim, then they are taking into account the "free users" also. The claim is as if RR went commercial tomorrow, and then immediately made the claim "The #1 commercial front end!"

My point on their start screen is....

If I am going to pay money for a front end to look OEM, I don't want the makers logo across the middle of the screen. I don't care that I can change it (from all the screens I found, only one, Drive, did away with the logo), the point is if they want me to advertise their product, they should pay me.
    My opinion is my own.

I would be interested to know if CF's blitz on every carputer manufacturer around to get them to sell CF really did payoff. CF went commercial sometime around Feb. 2007, but was in developement from 2001 (6 years in beta? wow!). SD went on sale 01/2006 and was in development from, well, I show a single post from 2001, but the first real "streetdeck" related post was 01/2006, when it went on sale, so not sure of the actual "start date".

CF is sold by everyone and their mother.
SD is sold (owned, developed, etc., I don't give a damn what they claim) by MP3car.com

It would be interesting to see how they fare on total SALES, not users. The truth is CF "SHOULD" be #1. I just doubt the numbers vs. sales matrix show it. Anyway, I just wanted to give kudos to CF so people didn't think I was totally unreasonable. But I still prefer SD.

Edit: Ok, to be fair, the first REAL CF post was 12/2004, so lets go with 2 years in beta instead of 6.
    My opinion is my own.

Fair enough. I used to be strictly SD too, but then got spooked when it looked like it was getting altogether abandoned. I'm just as curious as everyone else to know what the fate of SD is, but in the meantime I decided to give CF a go, and I really like it. The one thing I really missed most about SD was gestures. Imagine my excitement when I learned that version 2.0 of CF will include gesturing.

In any case, to each his own and I certainly can't sweat ya if you prefer SD. I genuinely hope you and the other loyal SD users don't get screwed by just getting dropped and left behind by those guys. Give CF 2.0 a test drive when it comes out though... ya just never know

    Oh!! Believe ME......I'm spooked!

I have to ask......why did you go with another "pay" frontend rather than go with RR? I've been following your software choices (stalking as greatwhite puts it), and saw where you left SD (and yes, you gave them every opportunity to keep your loyalty).

If I had more time to mess with code, I would love to go with RR and Digital FX 3.0. I love their internet radio, and with my EVDO usb device, I can drive while playing it. Just too much work getting everything to work together.

Now be honest......did you buy the cheap one? Or did you change your navigation and buy the big one? Be honest now!

If you did buy the big one, do you like Destinator? I'm being truthful here.....you are about the only one I would trust NOT to be biased in your answer. If you stuck with mappoint, do you like it in CF? Does the routing issue happen without the sat imaging?

I love SD's layout, that is obvious......but I am getting really ticked off at Chuck being a dick. My hope is some third party winds up owning SD and makes it the front end it was meant to be. Chuck had the vision, no doubt. But he seems to be one of those "I am the greatest" type people (pretty standard among programmers). I would much rather have a group of programmers to make it better.

edit: let me clarify group of programmers. NOT OPEN SOURCE. A group of programmers in the same room, with a single guidance, Bill Gates preferred, reaching for a final goal!

This is a centrafuse forum, so that's all I am going to say about SD here.
    My opinion is my own.

    Daniel,

Pretty sad you see me as biased. you should read my past posts and youll see how unbiased I am. I am however sold on CF in the same way your sold on SD at this point. I waited and waited before jumping ship but glad I finally did.

And as for me, when I first bought CF I got the cheapie version, tried MP but its actually not very functional so a couple weeks ago I upgraded to the full version especially now that the new BT software is coming out and I love the full version so far. Destinator seems good to me but I have only been using it for 2 weeks yet but I havent had an issue yet.

    1. You accused me of lying about even trying CF after I mentioned using the trial and didn't like it (trial is 1.20). I think your words were "He must be going off hearsay".

    2. You accused me of intentially biasing a "blind" test saying I didn't upgrade. But if you check, after loading the trial, there is no mention of an upgrade, and even clicking on check for upgrade from the software itself, you are told there isn't one.

After being wrongly accused twice, no, I would not believe any of your comments as unbiased. I don't mean that as a personal attack, I truly don't. But if you are so "sided" with CF that you are blind to other peoples "innocent" experiences, then you lost the credibility to be considered unbiased. Sorry.

I have been following your experiences with CF. Mainly bug reports. And yes, I see where you aren't "blindly" following the CF saga. But I wouldn't ask you directly for an opinion. Again, nothing personal. It would be like someone asking me for an opinion of how SD works. I doubt you would get an unbiased opinion. Now ask me about the people that made or sell SD, and that's a different story. lol

Think I would go with the middle grade. I have Mappoint, Streets and Maps, Street Atlas 2007, and Iguidance 4.0. One of those should work. lol
I am watching that phone thing closely. I don't think anyone can beat the Motorola IFH1000 for ease of programming and use, but I really want to have the phone go through the computer.
    My opinion is my own.
