    slashdot,

The caller says something. It plays from the speakers of the carputer, the mic then picks it up and plays it back to the caller. That's the echo.

It doesn't return because the mic on the phone is far enough away from the phones speaker so that it doesn't pick up the returned audio and loop.

Why cant the sound patterns be compared to the ones that are being transmitted to the line out device then eliminated if they are picked up on the mic or line in device. Plus just not transmit what is being said in to the microphone through the line out device.
Maybe easier said than done but it seems like this could be done with some creative thinking.

im geting on trying to deal w/ echo too.
software wise i can reduce echo on windows easy! as lond as I can get 2 separate streams... do few recording and substracting wave info from previous recording and you have more or less no echo, but quolity gets reduced to as in wave we not alaways can figure to what level to cut the stream

because test was not done properly. Try muting spekers on both side of conversation. If echo still exist then you are runing on slow system. I did test run on my dev desctop with headphones and had no echo i was using BluSoleil alone w/o CF connection was established between my desctop and cell phone located few feet away but far anough for us not to "see" sound delay.

If you have a realtek based soundcard, there are software side options to eliminate the echo. I know for a fact it works on the Intel D945GCLF2 board.

I'm using the D945GCLF2 board and the included Realtek Driver pack on a Windows 7 Ultimate install. Go Control Panel>Hardware and Sound and you should see Realtek HD Audio at the bottom of the list, open that and click on the microphone tab. The options are in there.
