Just got this email from Centrafuse:

The new retail pricing for Centrafuse 3.0 will be USD $79.99, plus Navigation.

We value our loyal installed user base, and know that nearly a thousand of you have purchased Centrafuse over the past few months. We want to recognize that commitment in form of a discounted upgrade price:

If you purchased any version of Centrafuse before August 1st, 2009
you can upgrade to Centrafuse 3.0 for USD $49.99

We’re also looking forward to working with new CarPC enthusiasts. I realize that no one wants to buy Centrafuse today only to turn around and pay an upgrade when 3.0 is released. We’ve considered you as well:

If you purchase Centrafuse after August 1st, 2009
you can upgrade to Centrafuse 3.0 for FREE

So it makes sense to just wait for the official release, because mp3car is $115 for 2.0, and free upgrade to 3.0.

Actually that wording "$79.99, plus navigation" makes me think the navigation is extra. If thats the case then it would make more sense to buy the standard version of 2.0 for $62.50 and get the free upgrade to 3.0.

But you can really read it either way so I am not sure.

I had a feeling it was going to suck for all the early supporters of CF but they gotta make money somehow. Might be time to switch to SD if they come out with a 3.0

Why does it suck for the early supporters of CF.

The early supporters of CF have had use of CF for x amount of months. And can now upgrade for a small fee

Purchasers since it went on sale have had a fews months for half the price. Plus upgrade to the new version is cheap

New users will pay the price for the new version but be able to use the current version until the new version is out.

TBH I think it is very fair.

Yes, They are still using Destinator. Remember Flux isn't a big company and when Flux tries to switch to a new NAV engine, of the company that they want to use, does not like the forecast numbers of sales (they think they are to little) they will not take Flux serious and just blow Flux off. This is the reason that Flux took Destinator out of CFs core system and made it a plug-in instead. Me researching Destinator, it seems the company has changed direction and only decided to make their software available on Handy Devises and other embedded devices. They no longer seem to support the PC version. Maybe this is the reason CF is offering the NAV version at such a low price. On the other note, CF has made a plugin that can embed just about any other NAV engine, so in my case, I will use iG 2K9 (since I finally learned how to use it, in the past I couldn't). I actually like Destinator because its ease of use, but I hate the outdated maps and routing issues. I am hoping that maybe FLUX can squeeze new maps out of Destinator, but its doubtful. In all, CF3 is so much more advanced, I think alot of people will not mind paying the upgrade fee. As far as skinning, its finally even, if not better then RR now. So CF users can finally have breath taking skins with nice transitions.

It sucks cause you have to pay all over again which i'm not saying isn't fair. It just sucks thats its not free just like it sucks that people had to pay for crappy vista (actually that sucks more). I would much rather have it for free although i'm not an early supporter. I paid for my CF not too long before it went on sale for half price and now i'm gonna have to pay for CF once again or just keep the one i have which still works great!!

I guess its like buying apples. U can buy 10 apples but if you want more apples or better grade apples u have to pay more. I'm saying if I have to pay again I might as well try something new

Do ford give you a new car for free just because your taurus is three years old and they have a new replacement?

Do Sony give you a new LCD to replace your CRT?

Now if CF had decide not to have a cheaper upgrade path for existing user then I could understand your b'tching.
