Because the problem is that most people are not using a Car PC based system, unless its a full laptop mounted in the car. They don't take use car PC users that use significantly smaller screens into effect. We are not a big part of the market, so there for get no consideration. Thats why I like iGuidance, they seemed to have put some thought into the GUI and made it UMPC friendly.

I'm pretty certain that they're aware of the fact that a lot of users do not like dest. engine. Hence, I think the want to stick to dest. for a reason, whether its because of cost, or licensing issues, or whatever. They no longer limit you to use dest. anymore, so you can purchase version without maps and buy any other standalone programs, just need a bit of embedding thats all.

My understanding is that it will be fairly easy to embed also, with the new plugin.....

there are a lot of tablet pc's and handhelds out there though... but i never see anyone using them for gps. not when you can buy a $50 standalone garmin unit that works, or like most people i know they use their cellphone.

sucks either way, because our carpc's just arent complete without a good gps system.

I have Centrafuse with north america maps. I will personally say that out of the hundreds of gps units and software I have used destinator is the worse. I dont mean to bash anyone but if I would have known how bad the routing was I wouldn't have bought Centrafuse with navigation. It was after I used it and got on the forums that I heard about iguidance. I have never used iguidence but it has to be better.
An example, (and I have went thru the settings a thousand times and everything is as it should be) I took my son to an airshow and wasnt sure exactly where it was so I punched it in. Google had it listed as 54 min. away at 46 miles. My navigation said 123 miles and 2hrs. and 20min. to arrival........what?
So after the airshow and no help from the gps I punched it in for home. 111miles and 1hr. 57min. to arrival......again.....what?
It takes me on every back country road known to man before eventually hiting an interstate and if you try to argue with that little chick in the computer she will make sure you do not enjoy one second of a movie or song.
Anyway.........I dont like it and will be removing it.
Google my name if you need to know who I am.

One says 46 miles and one says 123 miles and you reckon your setting are ok

I have it set up not to avoid any roads but it never goes the most direct route. It always goes the strangest ways that dont even make sense. It would have me instead of jumping on the interstate 5 miles from my house go 30 miles down highways and back roads and then jump onto the interstate. I wish it was me and it would work but I dont think it is, but I plan on having the guys at the meet in Baltimore check it out for me just to make sure because it really doesnt make any sense.
I saw the Garmin plug in and that looks decent, I havent looked into the software availability or cost but I may go that way with it.

good point about the routing. I think a good alternative to that is to use some sort of button to switch between different route options.

Nope, i agree with him, I have used the nav engine i think a total of 3 times, and i have had that happen twice to me, All stock settings. Once it routed me from middletown CT, through New York to a location in southern CT. A second time was from Hartford, CT to New London CT area and for something that should be about a 1hr drive it was going to take about an hour and a half or more with the route it calculated. Both times i said screw it and got a correct route from garmin mobile on my cell phone.
