I'll say this, CF really should get the Win version working before they start releasing another version of CF on Linux, especially if the Linux version is based off the Win version.

Let me ask, is there anything different? Like playlist management, etc?

Amen to that but they are too small to satisfy all those ridiculous set ups people come up with

what? are you high? lol it runs like a champ on my d510 with barely any cpu utilization and i can only image how much better it will run on linux without all that overhead of useless windows crap

Apparently your definition of fast and mine are two entirely different things.

And a side note, iirc Linux has more overhead to run mono than windows does to run .NET.

once it's up, I'm sure CF is fine. My qualms are with startup time.

Just out of curiosity, is OM native linux code? How's that working out these days?
OM is not native code. I'm not sure how fast it runs on Linux, I've only tried it on the igepv2, on which it was terrible (with no hw gfx support). Since Justchat has been MIA for several months now, I don't foresee OM going anywhere soon.

I agree..... OM seems to have stalled, which is a shame. That basically leaves the two giants RR and CF for Windows, and now LinuxICE and CF on Linux..... Is LinuxICE still in production?

Now that I have fixed my multizone woes, I can use either RR or CF, but I am still kind of upset for CF stringing me along on their multizone, which turned out to be rushed and 10000% useless. CF is so much easier to use then RR, even though I am starting to get the hang of RR.

    mono is spanish for monkey.

LinuxICE was superseded by MeeGo, which will be superior.

Well, let's see. There's Mono for Linux, and MonoDroid for Android, and Mono for IOS. I'm thinking once you get things running on one, the task of getting it running on all the others becomes a little easier.

As for the startup time, it's a little bit tough to say, since I don't know how much time the Atom board spends in POST. I'm not launching CF straight from startup, but I get a desktop in about 10sec. CF launches VERY quickly from the command prompt, so a WAG would be under 15 seconds from power on.

I tend to agree with the view that supporting Linux (and anything else that may follow) is a good thing for everyone. I expect a bit further down the road, there'll be some folks out there doing some nifty installs based on some kind of linux build.

    Cheers!

I emailed centrafuse about trying/testing the Linux version but never heard anything. Would you be able to post the .deb or source?

Just to clarify a few points. Claiming no level of accuracy in my opinions but they could be solid..

Mono = opensource implementation of .Net

CF is written in .net so it only make sense to use mono rather than rewriting from scratch. Mono isn't horrible, the application gnome-do which is popular is written in mono and it's fast and has smooth effects/transitions. CF has never run as smooth as i'd expect for any given hardware, so I would blame the software itself.

The comment about focusing on fixing CF first on windows before focusing on linux might be valid or might be moot. If it's no real issue to port ongoing builds to linux/mono then that doesn't hold back the development effort.

Having CF on linux is a real selling point because if you want to do things legally now you dont have to obtain a legit windows xp/7 license to host CF. Linux is free and I would prefer to use linux for something like this. Easier to script things and tie external applications together. However sad to say windows 7 handles suspend/hibernate much faster and more stable/reliable than linux. I used to run linux as my carpc OS but switch to use CF and enjoyed the better experience with suspend/resume.

Some people may be hard set on using Linux as their carpc os so this opens up CF's audience.
