Before this spirals out of control, I'd like to suggest having an overhead view of an outline of a car w/ images of each major system. Anything that indicates out of band data would be color coded appropriately (eg, the transmission might be yellow flashing). If you tapped a component like the engine, it would bring up live data of each of the readings from engine components and show what they were. If you tapped the exhaust line, it would bring up a display showing O2 sensor, catalytic converter status, etc.

For cars with CANBUS, you could have a lot of detailed info of all different systems.

Any OBDII frontend would need to have a method for filling in car/manufacturer specific OBD codes.

OK you can lock it out if you want, but no, I have dvd running on back screens and such and I dont want it locked out in my car, so no developer can force that (especially since not all frontends lock it out!)

Why disable DVD when driving ? - If you don't want to watch DVD while driving, then don't - god i hate when someone tells me what to do....
It doesn't hurt to have it as an option. I would turn it off in case I get harrassed by cop about it. It's illegal here to have a system installed that allows video playback in the front seat while driving. This way I can demostrate it works like it should if need be.

I would like to think that NO developer posting software in this forum would automatically lockout video/dvd or any other functionality. Having the functionality is one thing, but having it and locking us out is a WASTE of everyone's time.

However, I do believe having the choice/option to implement a "lockout" of certain functions IF WE choose to turn them on/off as part of our setups, is a welcomed addition.

    my two-and-half cents.

Just put it in as an option.... it should be easy enough...

Especially since destinator frontend has communication with other apps like phoco (If I remember correctly), ti shouldnt be difficult to get the speed to inside centrafuse, then you can have multiple function lockout at different speeds! :P

this won't be a problem... I will be implementing a lockout option.. It will controlled via relay board through the serial port... So it can be hooked up to things like the parking brake.. I might also implement a OBD lockout feature...

Lets here more about what OBD features everyone wants....

It might be easier to look at existing tools... most people dont have much to base themselves on when asking for features, and not that many people seem to already have OBD... If centrafuse integrates it (by the way I like the picutres above as a way of making it wokr!) then I'm sure many people will see the 80$ investment in an OBD interface very worthwhile... I think most people dont look into it cause you need an external app and it relly isnt very conveninet if it isnt builtin to the frontend

I like the above screenshots myself, they're really nice looking. I guess as far as features go then I would like a simple and easy way to see LARGE graphical images while driving, maybe images like the speed and RPM, but more inportantly other features that are not already on the dash. Honestly, there are soooooo many ways to go about doing it, it would be hard to satisfy everyone. Maybe a skin editor? I believe this was suggested for the main application, but if that's not going to be implemented then maybe a skin editor for only the OBDII section of the program? I dont know - but I like the idea of built in OBDII!! -BW

Built in obd ii is really cool me thinks!

However, lets not priorize reproducing the gauges from the dash just cause we can... although this can be nice to have it shouldnt be the focus!

Lets focus on other data like the pictures above, as well as stuff which might be useful when not in use...

Instead of a skinner I'd vote for a selection screen where you can add "Speed Gauge+RPM Graph+Temp Reading" etc, and "compose" your screen... it would be cool to have several saevable screens which we can then toggle between...

I will hopefully have integrated OBD support in the next release

Royn: The reason I started the thread was because, from what I read, everyone seems to be un-satisfied with all the OBD software available. I have checked them all out and have gotten lots of ideas, but just wanted to see exactly what everyone disliked about all these available tools.. I know integration is one of the biggest compliants, and that problem will definetly be solved
